Based in Kirkuk with frequent travel to Tikrit, and Al-Anbar
The Education Coordinator is a member of Save the Children’s Response team in the federal Iraq, supporting IDP, Returnee, and host community children. Under the supervision of the programme Manager, The Education Coordinator is responsible for:
- Planning, implementing and evaluating SC’s activities in Kirkuk, Salah Aldin, and Anbar areas.
- Work closely with the Response team as well as with the government and beneficiaries to ensure coordination and appropriate community involvement in our programmes.
- Under supervision of the Education Program Manager and Kirkuk Field Manager, the Education Coordinator will ensure that project activities are consistent with the donor and Save the Children’s programming principles and approaches, draw on relevant best practices and lessons learned, enable children to attain their rights and are compliant with donor regulations.
- Ensure regular coordination with the DoEs in the targeted sites and gain all field approvals for the project.
- Weekly, Monthly, and quarterly report submission to the field manager and project manager with accurate data and impact evidence.
- Ensure quality of implementation through coordination with MEAL and regular team follow up and site visits.
- Manage the spending of the project in the mentioned office according to the phased budget in close coordination with the project manager.
- Each programming site and centre has relevant safeguarding posters in place and explained.
- Ensure project assesses safeguarding risks at a minimum once a quarter.
- Ensure sharing safeguarding information with the community is included in the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP).
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Program Implementation
- Plan, implement and monitor programming in Kirkuk, Salah Aldin, and Anbar Governorates within the planned time frame and in accordance with the operational strategy.
- Programmes to develop and implement may include;
- Ready to Learn implementation in the targeted areas (Kirkuk, Salah Aldin, Anbar)
- Establish and run ECCD centres in targeted areas to support children learning from age 3 to 6.
- Community participation session such as father engagement and Emergent Literacy and Math sessions for parents
- Teacher education/ training workshops on Ready to Learn, Social and Emotional Learning, Inclusive education approaches and Safeguarding topics.
- Work closely with the Education Technical Advisor (TA) in setting priorities and preparing a monthly report to achieve program goals and objectives.
- Regularly monitor activities in the field and support the Education Officers and Education assistant.
- Prepare monitoring reports on each visit and submit to her/his supervisor.
- Organize training plans with the Education TA and provide ongoing support to improve the capacity of the Education assistant and Education Officers based on the identified training needs.
- Ensure that all planning, reporting, and other documentation is completed and filed.
- Fulfil administrative duties as per program schedule.
- Ensure timely requests for and delivery of equipment and supplies to local partners and staff.
- Build capacity on the program’s approaches and expected results through active.
Participation in staff training and orientation as well as full engagement in the program’s processes.
- Ensure that the program is implemented in ways that are responsive to needs of IDPs, Returnees and host communities a in line with SC’s principles, values and strategic plan and compliant with SC’s procedures.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Field Manager/TA.
Collaboration and Representation
- Hold regular meetings with project stakeholders, including DoE, governorate and local NGOs, community leaders and other stakeholders
- Represent Save the Children in a professional manner.
- Liaise with other stakeholders, including DoE , governorate councils and district councils, and selected civil society organizations who have work experience with you; participate in relevant meetings at the district and Governorate level.
To ensure integration (where appropriate) with other sectors, especially looking to strengthen the links between Education programmes and protection, NFI, WASH and CP.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Relevant University degree, preferably in early childhood education.
- 3 years of relevant work experience in Iraq.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Familiarity working with the government stakeholders, DoE, and ability to travel to all the target districts in the program area
