The Education Manager provides authoritative technical guidance and operational support throughout all stages of programming to facilitate the management and delivery of results on strengthening national education systems to improve learning outcomes and to promote universal access to quality, equitable and inclusive primary/early childhood education, especially for children who are marginalized, disadvantaged and excluded in society.

In The Gambia, UNICEF works with the Government to deliver services for children across the country. Guided by the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF works to ensure every child survives and thrives, and is protected from violence, discrimination and all forms of harmful traditional practices.

How can you make a difference? 

Under the guidance and direction of the Deputy Representative, the Education Manager manages the Education section, playing a key role in bringing innovation to the development and preparation of education programmes. S/He contributes to the achievement of concrete and sustainable results according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework.

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: An advanced university degree in the field of education, economics, psychology, sociology or another relevant technical field is required.
  • Work Experience: At least 8 years of relevant work experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in education is required.
  • Skills
    • Good understanding of the overall global development context
    • Good knowledge of global developments in education and international engagement strategies
    • Ability to support policy dialogue
    • Good education sector planning knowledge/ability
    • Good education and policy sector analysis capacity
    • Good ability to support engagement with partners
    • Good understanding of gender and inequity issues
    • Good understanding of policies and strategies
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables:

  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.

Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
