For every child, the right to education,
The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the Organization does — in programmes, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favoritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life — in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions — her or his rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education and protection of a society’s most disadvantaged citizens — addressing inequity — not only will give more children the opportunity to fulfill their potential but also will lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of Nations.
How can you make a difference?
Purpose of the job:
Under the supervision of the Education Specialist/Education Manager, the Education Officer will provide technical support for the effective planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of interventions for out-of-school children. This includes supporting innovative non-formal education interventions (NFPE) with a strong focus on multi-grade multi-level (MGML), Catch-up as well as Remedial Education, particularly to support most marginalized children to retain or re-enter into the mainstream education system.
The incumbent will work closely with relevant government ministries and civil society organizations (CSOs) to strengthen their capacity in developing community-driven, innovative, and evidence-based solutions. A key priority is to integrate these approaches into national systems for institutionalization, scale-up of education interventions through national projects led by Bureau of Non-Formal Education (BNFE) and through PEDP-5 to reach and support the most marginalized out-of-school children.
The Education Officer will support the quality implementation of multi-donor out of school children projects, ensuring that evidence and implementation findings inform and strengthen program design and delivery. The role includes providing technical, operational, and analytical support to promote effective programming, evidence-based planning, innovation, and the integration of EdTech solutions. The role also involves supporting research and studies, as well as capacity development for government counterparts and CSOs.
