SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Senior Education Project Officer

Budget Responsibilities: N/A

Role Dimensions: Save the Children supports the provision of basic education in nine refugee camps along the Thai / Myanmar border: Seven refugee camps under the auspices of KRCEE and two camps under the auspices of KnED (Karenni Education Department).

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Project Implementation

  • Provide inputs for the Senior Education Project Officer to prepare TPD activities reports
  • Ensure project compliance processes related to finance and documentation are maintained
  • Support the Senior Education Project Officer with TPD annual planning and review processes
  • Participate in regular team meetings and meetings specific to teacher professional development
  • With guidance from senior education project office develop, implement and monitor quarterly and monthly activity plans to achieve expected results.
  • Ensure that all planned activities are implemented on time, to quality measures and within budget as per the monthly plan. Where challenges arise, ensure that these are flagged early, communicated to Senior Education Project officer and addressed in a timely manner way.
  • Contribute to the preparation and provide the inputs to the relevant project reports for internal and external audience, if required,
  • Participate in project reviews, program progress, and project evaluation, if required,
  • Lead the preparation of all procurement and administrative documents for the project implementation,
  • Maintain records of project documents including the reports and studies and data safe,
  • Support logistical arrangement related to project activity implementation including training/workshops/seminars/study tours.

Education quality support

Ensure education quality via the following:

  • Provide intensive technical support to KRCEE Trainers and RTTs, through capacity building and one–to–one mentoring
  • Provide intensive technical education support for project training activities including the Pre-service and In-service Teacher Training programs and regular weekly camp-based teacher support sessions in KRCEE camps through capacity building and one-to-one mentoring
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve education issues that arise with trainers and teachers
  • Undertake regular observation and monitoring of trainers and teachers in the seven camps to assist in the planning and delivery of lessons, and compliance with established education frameworks
  • Support the MEAL team on field monitoring visits as needed
  • With the supervision of Senior Education Project officer to coordinate with MEAL and relevant staff in developing and revising relevant project monitoring/pre-post test tools and collecting the evidence as well as learning of the project.
  • Act a facilitator or/and co-facilitator for project training/workshop, where required;

Partnership

  • Support the Senior Education Project officer to collaborate with KRCEE and OCEE in the areas of teacher training planning, delivery, and reporting
  • Provide administrative support for KRCEE for implementation of teacher professional development activities
  • Undertake monitoring of KRCEE teacher training activities
  • Provide support for additional training and resources for partners as needed
  • Represent Save the Children in camps
  • Liaise with local partners and stakeholders (religious leaders, government, CSOs etc.) to ensure the smooth implementation of the project;
  • With the guidance from the Senior Education Project officer represent SCT

Administrative

  • In collaboration with the BEST/PREPS team, develop quarterly financial planning and budget phasing
  • Ensure that cash advances are reconciled as per Save the Children’s policies and procedures
  • Ensure that monthly work plans are developed and accompanying documents are submitted on time, e.g. Travel Authorisation Requests (TAR)
  • Support logistical arrangement related to project activity implementation including training/workshops/seminars/study tours.
  • Collaborate with crossed-functions

Internal Support

  • Ensure that camp partners are prepared for visits by Save the Children’s staff from other offices
  • Support translation for non-Karen/Burmese-speaking staff
  • Attend monthly team meeting
    • Request and hold cash advance / outstanding receipts up to the value of one month’s salary

Authority:

  • Request partner materials for project implementation for review

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in teaching learning and education

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • At least 3 years of professional working experience in a development education program
  • At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience
  • Ability and experience in developing teaching and learning resources and lesson plan
  • Ability and experience in facilitating training for teachers
  • Ability and willingness to work in a remote area and travel in the 9 camps along the Thai-Myanmar border
  • Knowledge of education systems of refugees along the Thailand – Myanmar border
  • Ability to speak English and Karen or Burmese languages
  • Demonstrated excellent team player, self–directed
  • Ability and experience in writing activity reports
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated administrative skills
  • Demonstrated budgeting skills

Desirable

  • Experience in child safeguarding and protection in schools
  • Experience working in low resource context
