UNICEF Pacific is hiring an Education Specialist on a temporary appointment (364 days) to be based in the Vanuatu Office in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Under the guidance and general supervision of the Vanuatu Field Office Chief and technical supervision of the Chief of Education in Fiji, the Education Specialist plays a lead role in the development and preparation of the Education and ECD programmes in Vanuatu and is responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting the progress of education programmes/projects within the country programme.
The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of results on education and ECD programmes/projects to improve learning outcomes and equitable and inclusive education, especially for children who are marginalized, disadvantaged and excluded in society.
The Specialist contributes to the achievement of results according to plans, allocation, results-based management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance, and accountability framework.

Education:
- An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, economics, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field.
Work experience:
- A minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience in programme planning, management, and/or research in education is required.
- Experience working in a developing country is required. Experience in a Pacific or SIDS context is considered an asset.
- Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered an asset.
Languages:
- Fluency in English is required while knowledge of the local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
