About Resource Conservation District of The Santa Monica Mountains

Proudly serving the local community since 1961, the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains (RCDSMM) offers programs and services focused on watershed management, restoration, research, and education throughout the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding areas. The RCDSMM plans and implements riparian and wetland restoration projects, conducts monitoring for various sensitive habitats and species, works toward the recovery of endangered fish populations, implements habitat creation and enhancement, plans interpretive design projects, works to build more wildfire resilient communities and landscapes and coordinates environmental education programs for learners of all levels.

Description

The Education Supervisor is part of the District’s Education Department and works under the supervision of the Director of Education. This is a full-time position (minimum 32 hrs/week, not to exceed 40 hrs/week) which provides day-to-day supervision and coordination of field educators and site leads, including scheduling, coaching, and operational support.

The position is responsible for coordinating program logistics, managing communications and scheduling, supporting education staff, and assisting with curriculum implementation and program development. This position regularly serves as a lead representative of the organization during programs and events by providing onsite leadership, supporting staff, responding to challenges in dynamic environments, and helping ensure safe, organized, and engaging educational experiences.

Working closely with the Director of Education, the Education Supervisor contributes to the ongoing development and improvement of education programs through staff mentorship, curriculum refinement, partnership coordination, and administrative support. The position also assists with program tracking, resource management, reporting, and departmental planning efforts. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and independently in both office and outdoor settings.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Studies have shown that underrepresented people often do not apply for technical jobs unless they feel they meet every qualification or requirement listed in a job description. Conversely, people with identities overrepresented in these fields often do not hesitate to apply for jobs even if they do not meet all stated qualifications. RCDSMM does not expect one person to perfectly fit this job description prior to holding a similar position for several years. RCDSMM wants the right fit, for both the employee and for RCDSMM.  Prior experience may be transferable, even if it is outside what is described herein. Training and professional development is available to RCDSMM employees to help improve skills. Passionate and interested people with the core competencies listed above are encouraged to apply.
