JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the Education Team Leader position is to contribute to technical competencies regarding project implementation, with a strong focus on NRC staff, government, school administration, teachers, PTAs, training and capacity building on pedagogy, classroom management, PSS, CS/PSEA, EiE, and lifesaving messaging (including WASH in schools and health & hygiene). The Education Team Leader will contribute to the overall educational quality of NRC programming in Kadugli Area Office and will provide day-to-day technical support to the Education Coordinator/Education Project Manager.

Generic responsibilities

  • Management of project officers.
  • Ensure compliance with NRC policies, tools, handbooks, guidelines, and standards, with a strong focus on the Code of Conduct.
  • Technical responsibility for implementation and documentation of technical Education activities
  • Technical responsibility for quality control and monitoring of Education activities
  • Provide specific technical support and capacity building towards project staff, and lead on capacity building for teachers, PTA members etc.
  • Periodic status reports and other documents as required by your supervisor or management.
  • Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs, returnees and the host community in-line with SPERE and INEE Minimum Standards, and NRC Advocacy Strategy.
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries that are most in need.
  • Assess, promote, and document ideas for technical improvement and program development, including support to strategy and proposal development.
  • Liaison and collaborate with relevant local authorities and stakeholders.

 

Specific responsibilities 

  • Contribute significantly to Assessments (Baseline/Endline, Needs Assessments, Learning Outcomes)
  • Support Supervisor in Budget Monitoring of Education projects in KAO.
  • Support data analysis and tracking of progress on Indicators; use data to make technical quality recommendations to strengthen programming.
  • Work closely with M&E unit on PDMs, GORS, Outcome Monitoring etc.
  • Use of NRC’s Learning Assessment Toolkit; with support of Ministry of Education (MoE).
  • Lead on identification of training needs and capacity building plans for school administration, headmasters, teachers, parents, PTAs and on School Improvement Plans (SIPs).
  • Contribute to proposal and strategy development through technical inputs.
  • Support NRC’s Better Learning Program (BLP) when requested.
  • Work on mainstreaming Protection/Safe & Inclusive Programming and GBV
  • If requested, act as OIC for Education Unit in SAO when Manager is absent or on leave.
  • Any other task relevant to the position, as requested by Supervisor, CC Specialist, or management.

  • Three years experience with Education in Emergencies (EiE), as well as Experience in a managerial position.
  • Experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Experience in Education in Emergencies.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook and Excel, Power Point
  • Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team setting.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to the field including to Hard to Reach (H2R) locations.
  • Fluency in Arabic, both written and verbal; very good English language skills.

Context/specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience as a teacher trainer or staff capacity builder required.
  • Experience coordinating Assessments.
  • Knowledge of the circumstances needs and challenges displacement and conflict-affected refugee, host community, returnee and IDP children face.
  • Experience with EiE, formal and non-formal basic education in a humanitarian context
  • Experience liaising with government and MoE stakeholders.
  • Field level experience with an NGO.
  • Understanding of SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards
  • Candidates with a university and/or advanced degree preferred; significant experience in the field of Education, PSS or Child Protection considered in lieu.
