Position Summary:
Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate clinical and non-clinical educational programs for the Health System. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* EDUCATION PLAN – Identify educational needs and issues of staff; analyze issues, trends, and supporting evidence to determine needs for education and qaulity enhancements
* EDUCATION PLAN – Identify desired outcomes; in collaboration with others, develop instructional program(s) that prescribes education curricula, strategies, alternatives, and resources; take into account quality indicators and policies, procedures, guidelines; integrate research findings into plan
* INSTRUCTION – Implement educational curricula utilizing adult learning principles to meet goals and objectives; teach relivant content; formulate the teaching outlines, coordinate educational initiatives and activities; ensure safety and comfort and promote positive learning; integrate ethics in all areas of practice
* OUTCOMES – Establish and monitor accurate outcomes for educational programs as developed; revise these programs when deemed necessary by program supervisor or supervisor
* QUALITY – Maintain quality of educational programs by reviewing evaluation summaries on a regular basis, maintaining certifications in specialty areas(s) as appropriate, and remaining current in specialty area(s) trends
* PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE – Maintain current knowledge and competency in field of expertise and professional development practice; enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, and attending in-services; serve as a role model; maintain certification in specialty area; attend meetings and represent department or hospital on committees as assigned; provider leadership in the practice settings and the profession
* COLLABORATION – Establish collegial partnerships with other professionals, leaders, stakeholders, and others who contribute to the development of peers, staff, students, colleagues, and others; collaborate with individuals and groups to facilitate practice and promote quality outcomes; serve as a consultant and educational resource
* RESOURCE UTILIZATION – Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, efficiency, quantity, and cost in regard to instructional programs and desired outcomes; demonstrate achievement of productivity goals
* CEU – Provide CEU contact hours following procedure mandated to maintain hospital as an approved provider
* RECORDS – Maintain documentation and records of instructional programs as required by hospital policy and regulatory agencies; produce reports of educational programs by collecting statistical data for administrative and quality improvement purposes
* COMMUNICATION – Establish and maintain open and effective communication patterns with peers, colleagues, students, administrators, and others using the chain of command
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 – Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 – Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 – Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 – Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 – Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don’t understand or may “not seem right”

Experience:
Essential:
3 years directly related experience

Nonessential:
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo

Credentials:
Essential:
* Registered Respiratory Therapist
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Respiratory Care Practitioner in NM
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification w/in 1 year
Nonessential:
* Instructor Cert in course such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.

Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
