Starting Salary: £55,587 – £64,512 depending on skills & experience.

Bonus: Up to 15% base salary per annum based on achievement of Company targets and personal
performance.

Working Pattern: Days (37 hours per week, typical hours are 07:30 – 15:40 or 08:10 – 16:20)

What will the successful candidate be doing:

EHS Managers manage the provision of a professional EHS advice and support service to enable
areas of the business to deliver its objectives whilst meeting Sellafield Ltd, legislative and
regulatory requirements. 

The successful candidate will be integral part of the organisation; directing the interests of
EHS, providing challenge to improve EHS performance and acting as the EHS conscience of the
delivery area. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and managing a team work programme; interfacing with various levels of authority
    in the business to balance work prioritisation and resource deployment.
  • Educating, coaching and mentoring personnel at all levels on EHS principles, practices and
    approaches to support the EHS programme.
  • Interfacing with functional peer groups to inform development of EHS policies and
    procedures, and assuring that all EHS legislative and Sellafield Ltd management system
    requirements are correctly interpreted and implemented within the delivery area.
  • Developing and delivering a programme of EHS assurance activities and performance reviews,
    providing accurate and timely reporting of issues, including escalation of significant EHS
    concerns to senior management.
  • Monitoring and reviewing EHS Performance and identifying / supporting activities that
    improve EHS performance.
  • Interfacing directly with regulators, stakeholders and customers to respond to questions
    and challenges specific to the area and proactively managing communications on EHS matters.
  • Advising on the level of support needed from EHS role holders to enable the Duty Holder to
    effectively deliver their accountabilities.
  • Developing the competence of a team of professional EHS Advisers, and engaging with the
    Heads of Profession on activities such as recruitment, mobilisation, training, development and
    competency assessment, recognising overall business priorities.
  • Supporting in the investigation of EHS incidents and events, ensuring corrective actions
    are taken, and learning opportunities identified and shared.
  • Leading by example, championing best practice by directing, coaching and encouraging others
    to demonstrate appropriate EHS behaviours and promoting a positive EHS culture.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills

  • Degree level qualification (2:1 minimum) in a relevant STEM subject or an equivalent level
    of qualification and experience (e.g. SL Safety/Environment Competency Scheme).
  • Chartered member of a relevant Professional Body (e.g. CEnv, CMIOSH, CRadP, CChem, CSci,
    CPhys, CEng etc.) or equivalent demonstration of commitment to professional standards, conduct
    and personal professional development.
  • Ability to manage change and to drive self & others to deliver results and improve
    performance.
  • Experience of managing and delivering packages of work, with strong influencing and
    stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build effective relationships and
    influence with senior managers and leaders.
  • Substantial safety and / or environment experience, including a broad understanding of EHS
    legislation, standards and EHS issues.
  • Demonstrable record of influencing change to improve safety / environmental culture.

Desirable Skills

  • Team management experience.
  • Experience of dealing directly with internal and external regulators; supporting
    interventions/inspections/audits and responding to regulatory issues.
  • Broad experience across different aspects of NEHSQ (Nuclear, Environment, Quality,
    Conventional Health & Safety, Radiological Protection, etc)
  • Ability to articulate EHS concepts in a concise way in both written and oral form to a
    range of audiences from all levels of the business.
