EIP – Global Manufacturing Internship

IFC’s Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Forestry (MAF) department encompasses a wide range of sectors crucial for economic growth and meeting basic human needs. Our clients, which include leading global, regional, and local industry players, play a vital role in manufacturing goods and providing services that are in demand by consumers and necessary for infrastructure, businesses, and global supply chains. 
Within our work with private sector clients, IFC’s priorities in Manufacturing include, but are not limited to: (i) enhancing productivity and access to manufactured goods and services while promoting low-carbon growth and resilience to climate change impacts; (ii) becoming the preferred financing partner for targeted clients, supported by our exceptional industry expertise; (iii) assisting select local companies in their growth journey while improving transparency and sustainable competitiveness; (iv) mobilizing investment through our activities; and (v) developing investment and advisory solutions at the client, sector, and country levels that can be scaled and replicated. 

MAF is seeking an intern as part of our Experiential Internship Program (EIP). The Experiential Internship Program (EIP) offers highly motivated individuals an opportunity to be exposed to the mission and work of IFC and the broader World Bank Group and become part of the world’s largest private sector development institution. The program encourages individuals to bring new perspectives and innovative ideas to IFC’s work, while enhancing skills in a diverse and highly stimulating environment.

Within our work with private sector clients, IFC’s priorities in Manufacturing include, but are not limited to: (i) enhancing productivity and access to manufactured goods and services while promoting low-carbon growth and resilience to climate change impacts; (ii) becoming the preferred financing partner for targeted clients, supported by our exceptional industry expertise; (iii) assisting select local companies in their growth journey while improving transparency and sustainable competitiveness; (iv) mobilizing investment through our activities; and (v) developing investment and advisory solutions at the client, sector, and country levels that can be scaled and replicated. 
 
 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

As an Intern, you will focus on supporting the Industry Specialists and Global Sector Leads in Global Manufacturing at the IFC, and assume a vital role in addressing global challenges, such as critical components for energy transition, technologies for climate mitigation, including carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), green hydrogen, as well as other solutions for driving sustainable development in the manufacturing sector. Working closely with the Industry Specialist and Global Sector Leads, you will provide research, analysis, and strategic support to advance IFC’s thought leadership for new initiatives and investments in the manufacturing sector. 

Research and Analysis: 

• Conduct comprehensive research on global manufacturing megatrends, challenges, and opportunities, with a specific focus on sustainability, innovation, and emerging technologies. 
• Analyze data and market intelligence to identify key industry trends, risks, and potential investment opportunities. 
• Prepare reports, presentations, and briefings summarizing research findings and providing recommendations. 
Project Support: 
• Assist in the development and implementation of projects and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable manufacturing practices and addressing, climate, environmental and social challenges. 
• Support the Industry Specialist in conducting due diligence on potential investment opportunities in the manufacturing sector. 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams within IFC to ensure alignment and coordination of efforts. 
Stakeholder Engagement: 
• Support the Global Sector Leads and Industry Specialist in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations, and private sector partners. 
• Assist in organizing and participating in workshops, conferences, and industry events to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration. 
Policy and Strategy Development: 
• Contribute to the development of policies, strategies, and guidelines that guide IFC’s approach to sustainable manufacturing and addressing global challenges. 
• Stay updated on international best practices, standards, and regulations related to manufacturing and provide recommendations for their integration into IFC’s operations. 

Knowledge Management: 

• Contribute to the creation and dissemination of knowledge products, such as research papers, case studies, sector notes, sector pitchbooks, and thought leadership articles. 
• Support the development and maintenance of a knowledge-sharing platform to facilitate information exchange among internal and external stakeholders. 

You will report to the Global Manufacturing Manager and work closely with Industry Specialists, Global Sector Leads, other team members, and consultants. Collaboration across boundaries will be essential to deliver projects as required. 
This internship provides a valuable opportunity to contribute to the advancement of sustainable manufacturing and gain hands-on, practical experience in addressing global challenges within the manufacturing sector.

The position calls for a highly motivated individual who can work seamlessly with teams and independently complete tasks assigned to her/him. The successful candidate must be currently enrolled in master’s degree or PhD program in relevant field (e.g., process engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science).

Other specific skills include: 

• Commitment to IFC and the World Bank Group’s mission, strategy, and values. 
• Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize complex information from diverse sources. 
• Knowledge of global manufacturing trends, challenges, and sustainability practices. 
• Knowledge of industry financial and economic dynamics with the ability to work with forecasting models a plus. 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – ability to identify issues and practical solutions. 
• Ability to work effectively in teams and build bridges across organizational boundaries. 
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. 
• Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills in English. French or Spanish is a plus with the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and concise manner. 
• Client Orientation – Takes personal responsibility and accountability for timely response to client queries, requests or needs, working to remove obstacles that may impede execution or overall success; 
• Drive for Results – Able to take personal ownership and accountability to meet deadlines and achieve agreed-upon results and has the personal organization to do so;
