Become an Electrical DCS Engineer 2 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for the safe and reliable operations and maintenance (O&M) of the various Distributed Control Systems (DCS) used to operate SCE’s Power Generation and Water & Gas systems. You will also assist with architecting and implementing system upgrades and new solutions to challenging issues, including enabling innovative technology in the renewable generation future at SCE.

Focus of Role:
-
Perform sophisticated DCS maintenance activities including major logic and design changes, patching, programming, device management (ex: PLC’s), configuration changes and system integration.

Resolve minor or sophisticated incidents and issues involving control system hardware, software, and power plant operations, demonstrating industry and technical experience with control systems and plant operations.

Perform work assignments effectively both independently and in a lead capacity.

Develop and set direction and strategies for the DCS space in conjunction with internal and external partners and collaborators.

Expand standard processes with regards to O&M of control systems, including developing procedures and documentation.

Complete projects within the Generation portfolio including prioritization, planning, design, execution, testing, and deployment of various control system technologies with minimal supervision.

Provide efficient client support and partnership with various teams such as operators, technicians, plant engineering and more.

Support leads in training tasks, and mentoring other team members to achieve collective goals while encouraging the development of a balanced talent pipeline.

SCE’s plants and technology systems require 24/7 uptime operations, and this engineer may need to provide support off-hours on an as needed basis.
Responsibilities
-
Performs inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/ trouble shooting, and overall improvements
-
Ensures system event assessments and RCA are performed for equipment failures and implements corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place
-
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity

Conducts independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
-
Performs power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stays informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology

Ensures the performance of day to day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including
-
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards

Helps ensure infrastructures supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle
-
Develops the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one-line diagrams, and selecting equipment
-
Assists in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system funcionality and quality of service to customers
-
Act as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.

Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.

Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience working with simple cycle and/or combines cycle gas plants and their associated DCS systems (Ovation/MarkVIe/Woodward/PLCs).
-
Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power System Engineering, or Power Plant Engineering expertise.
-
Two or more years of direct industry experience with proven expertise in power plant operations, instrumentation, and control systems maintenance.

Knowledge of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), Remote Intelligent Gateways (RIG’s), Water SCADA and other control system platforms.

Knowledge of IT Networks.
Additional Information
-
This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

The primary work location for this position is Redlands, CA. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at (alternate work location).

Position will require up to 60% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory. Must be able to drive, take boats or other transportation methods (as needed) and occasionally work in off-road or hiking conditions (some of our assets may be in remote places).

This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.

This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40hrs/5 days a week.
