Job Description:Wood Digital Consulting (DC) is currently recruiting for a Electrical and Instrumentation Discipline Manager to support our EMEA Systems Integration business. This is a new position as part of our continued growth plans.The Discipline Manager will be required to manage a team of Discipline Team Leads and their direct reports to maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of the Electrical and Instrument department. The overall size of the department is expected to be 30+ Engineers / Designers of varying levels.You will be responsible for functional management and development of discipline engineering resources and governance of discipline practices and procedures. Acting as a discipline subject matter expert to support and drive engineering excellence across wider organisation.Leading by example is a prerequisite, consistently displaying and enforcing the Company’s values and behaviours, role modelling commitment to the highest standards of safe and ethical behaviour and creating an inclusive work environment.This is a hybrid role that can be based anywhere in the UK, mobility and travel to customer sites and face to face meetings with colleagues will be expected.Applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.Responsibilities:Engineering delivery and performance

  • Drive HSSEA culture and performance through assigned discipline group
  • Ensure discipline engineering integrity is maintained across all work scopes
  • Drive continual focus on process safety through the discipline engineering team
  • Drive elimination of technical incidents through robust controls, incident reviews and embedding lessons learned and best practice from across the organisation in the discipline engineering team
  • Support technical assurance activities, including conducting audits and participating in technical incident investigations
  • Provide discipline personnel to deliver work scopes in line with company policies and procedures and within customer requirements
  • Manage and work within departmental overhead budgets and manage utilisation of resources vs workload
  • Support Head of Engineering to prepare short-term and annual workforce plans to identify the number and mix of staff required to meet the demand forecast
  • Collaboratively produce discipline input to engineering execution plans with other discipline managers
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering systems and tools required by the discipline to deliver cost effective and competitive engineering execution
  • Plans and prioritizes work to meet discipline commitments aligned with organizational goals. Looks ahead to determine and obtain needed resources to complete plans
  • Identify and pursue innovation opportunities for discipline, including emerging technologies within the discipline area
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for margin enhancement including through HVEC utilisation

Strategy and Development / Business Development

  • Provide support to the business development process to identify and win new work
  • Support strengthening and deepening the use of workshare
  • Collaboratively produce discipline input to proposals with other discipline heads

People and capability

  • Under guidance from the Head of Engineering, set the vision and strategic direction for the Discipline Engineering Group
  • Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement the engineering group strategy within the discipline area; explain the relationship to the broader organization’s mission, vision and values; motivate people to commit to these
  • Line Management of 12 to 15 direct reports including reports who are Discipline Team Leads with up to 15 staff each, including, setting targets and objectives; pay reviews, performance reviews, career progression, training and development. Inputs to performance reviews and pay reviews across wider discipline group
  • Secure future resource and capability requirements within the discipline area to deliver current and future projects and lead on recruitment and selection of resources
  • Implement formal development frameworks for a substantial department, ensuring the development of personnel to take more senior roles as their career progresses. Maintain succession plans for the discipline
  • In parallel with other line or functional managers as appropriate, identify the discipline team’s individual development needs. Plan and implement actions, including continuing professional development specified by professional or regulatory institutions, to build their professional capabilities
  • Ensure that appropriate and effective competence assurance is in place for assigned discipline group
  • Manage and report on the performance of a substantial, diverse team; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and wider discipline team members and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team objectives
  • Identification of competence gaps in discipline group and identify / organise technical training or on the job development to close gaps
  • Builds an inclusive team culture which recognizes the value that different perspectives and cultures bring

Governance, Policies and Procedures

  • Develop, test and maintain discipline processes and procedures in line with Wood policies and requirements including codes and legislation, providing guidance on regulatory and legislative issues related to their discipline
  • Manage discipline manuals and other intellectual property owned by the discipline
  • Develop and maintain the relevant discipline software tools in line with Wood policies and procedures
  • Support Project Delivery Assurance as required – including a system of reviews and assurance activities on projects
  • Highlight shortcomings in discipline processes, systems and procedures and implement appropriate improvements using established change management practices

Qualifications:Qualifications:

  • ISCED Level 6 / Bachelors (minimum) or Level 7 / Masters (preferred) degree in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent professional experience
  • Chartership with relevant professional body / Professional Engineer License or equivalent is an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive broad and deep experience of engineering delivery in one or more relevant industry sectors
  • Expert level experience and understanding of discipline engineering tools and processes
  • Broad understanding of the business drivers for relevant industry sector clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to anticipate and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders
  • Able to attract top talent to meet current and future business needs
  • Experienced in developing talent using coaching, mentoring and formal performance processes
