The Electrical Systems Technology Instructor (12 month contract) position will be based on the Chatham Main Campus in Pittsboro and may include course sections in Harnett, Lee or some online duties.  
Full-time faculty at Central Carolina Community College facilitate transformative lifelong learning by incorporating discipline-specific learning outcomes through active learning opportunities, lectures, hands-on skill development, and appropriate classroom management. Faculty provide constructive feedback and authentic assessment to enable students to improve their knowledge and skills with each assignment. Faculty establish meaningful connections with students to support their academic, personal, and career success.

Salary depends on education and experience. 

Associate Degree salary range: $56,596 – $63,708

Bachelor’s Degree salary range: $59,963 – 67,427

Master’s Degree salary range: $62,951 – $70,055

                    Doctoral Degree salary range: $67,257 – $73,976
This position is eligible for a $5000 hiring bonus to be paid out in three installments.   

Occasional evening teaching or travel to teach on other campuses may be required.

Essential Duties

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Embrace the institutional goals of Central Carolina Community College by engaging students as full partners in the learning process, removing barriers to student progression in courses, and supporting and assisting students in achieving their educational and career goals.
  • Use student learning outcomes to create a variety of activities, assignments, and assessments that ensure curriculum goals are met.
  • Create a dynamic instructional environment that promotes a positive, interactive, and inclusive learning experience for all students.
  • Maintain a Blackboard course with a syllabus and gradebook for each class.
  • Grade all assignments in a timely manner and ensure that all grades are reported within the 10-day college grading policy.
  • Provide personalized and constructive feedback on student assignments by recognizing what students did well and identifying attainable improvements for future work.
  • Respond to all student communication within two business days.
  • Report attendance weekly.
  • Utilize the early alert system to communicate needs for timely intervention, resources, and additional student support.
  • Facilitate student learning for instructional loads of 18-28 contact hours per semester.
  • Actively support the college’s vision of exceptional learning for all.

Advising Responsibilities:

  • Meet with each assigned advisee a minimum of once per semester to discuss educational, career, and life goals.
  • Connect students with their career communities to explore career options, build supportive relationships, and confirm career goals.
  • Review and approve student educational plans each semester.
  • Refer advisees to institutional and/or community resources as appropriate.
  • Complete required faculty advisor training.

Institutional Responsibilities:

  • Engage students in co-curricular career community activities to foster student development and establish a sense of belonging.
  • Stay current in your discipline and renew industry credentials, as needed.
  • Maintain program and/or college accreditation standards.
  • Actively engage with college committees as appointed.
  • Participate in advisory board meetings as requested.
  • Celebrate student achievement at graduation ceremonies and other recognitions.
  • Engage in a minimum of 5 hours of professional development each year.
  • Attend departmental, divisional, and collegewide meetings.
  • Maintain a weekly schedule of 35 hours on campus, including 5 required office hours.  Hours on site may be adjusted based on distance education responsibilities and/or approved telework arrangements.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Required educational background:

  • Associate degree in Electrical Systems Technology or a related field and Two years’ experience in the electrical industry.
  • OR Ten plus years experience in the electrical industry AND limited, intermediate, or unlimited license from a State Board of electrical contractors.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Electrical theory, knowledge of electrical safety practices; knowledge of NEC; knowledge of motors, controls, & PLC’s; knowledge of residential, commercial, and industrial wiring; knowledge of analog electronics

Preferred Requirements
  • A Limited, Intermediate, or Unlimited License from a state board of electrical contractors. 

  • Experience working with the NEC, PLC’s, Electronic Controls and Electrical Machine Control.  

  • College and/or high school teaching experience.
