The position is to be filled as of March 1, 2024, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with frequent travel to project locations in the country.

The country programme of Welthungerhilfe (WHH) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is focusing on humanitarian aid as well as on integrated multi-sectorial development activities within the sectors of agriculture incl. value chain development, WASH, nutrition and infrastructure. The programme is funded by the German Government (GFFO, BMZ, GIZ, KfW), EU and USAID. We are aiming at rolling out the Triple Nexus approach. As Emergency Programme Coordinator, you will develop, manage and implement WHH’s emergency programme in DRC based on the specified directives in terms of speed, content, schedule and budget.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide analyses of the humanitarian context and changing needs in sectors such as Food Security, Nutrition, WASH, Protection etc. in the country and support the development and the implementation of the humanitarian strategy anchored in the strategic objectives of WHH DRC
  • Ensure that the humanitarian strategy and operations are efficiently linked to emergency preparedness planning and programming
  • Lead the development of the humanitarian funding strategy, identify humanitarian donors, and conduct fund raising initiatives
  • Lead the development of humanitarian project proposals and oversee the technician implementation of humanitarian activities in the field
  • Coordinate rapid assessments and their implementation in the field
  • Maintain regular meetings and information exchange with institutional and non-institutional donors, sharing analyses and evidence of field needs
  • Ensure regular presence of WHH in all in-country humanitarian coordination meetings and actively participate in relevant clusters
  • Ensure WHH’s participation in relevant humanitarian inter-agency activities (e.g. Flash Appeals, Joint Assessments)
  • Serve as focal point for the development, implementation, monitoring and updating of emergency response and preparedness planning
  • Provide necessary capacity building to the country emergency response team and ensure implementation of the identified minimum preparedness actions
  • Ensure quality and compliance of WHH interventions with global and organizational standards

Your profile

  • A university or college degree in Disaster Management, International Development, Humanitarian Action, Community Development or a related field
  • At least 3 years relevant working and project/programme management experience in implementing complex emergency operations
  • Professional experience in grant acquisition, project design and writing high quality proposals as well as donor reports
  • Proven reporting and coordination skills, especially with standard emergency donors such as BHA, ECHO, FCDO, GFFO and others
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s project countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English and French language skills
