The Energy Access team increases the resilience of communities and ecosystems through applying scaled models that enable communities to access the renewable energy technology, information, financial tools, and the social support they need to adapt to a changing climate.  

Learning Objectives: 

  • By the end of the internship, the intern will have learned the correlation between climate adaptation and energy access in the context of Mercy Corps’ international development work
  • By the end of the internship, the intern will have learned how to communicate and exchange knowledge around energy access and its different delivery models in multicultural and multisectoral contexts
  • By the end of the internship, the intern will have learned how to communicate effectively energy access content through social media
Deliverables:
  • Finalization of training module of energy access delivery models for MC countries of intervention; focus would be on integration of renewable energy into climate adaptation framing, including productive uses of energy and partnership with off-grid energy companies; decentralized renewable energy for islands, rural and humanitarian settings; modern clean cooking
  • Revision and finalization of communication material on energy interventions; the material will be digestible by a wide audience while maintaining technical relevance
  • Set of social media updates for the wider MC team to disseminate
The Ideal Candidate:
  • University degree in progress or recently completed (within 1 year) in relevant discipline: energy, international development and climate change
  • Excellent communication skills – written and spoken, and across different cultural settings.  The candidate masters communication tools and is capable of explaining complex technical concepts in easy to understand language
  • Passion for international humanitarian development and ability to embrace the diversity of a complex global organization.
  • Creative problem solver – able to design, develop and revolutionize ideas.
  • Attention to detail – able to manage and track and prioritize multiple requests by maintaining strong communications and managing stakeholder expectations
  • Interest in working in a multicultural environment, and with stakeholders in multiple geographies.
  • Mercy Corps interns represent the agency both during and outside of work hours and are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and Mercy Corps policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
