The Energy Campaigns Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the organization’s plans for the deployment of and legislative support of clean energy in Indiana. The Coordinator will cover a wide array of policy arenas and interface with diverse stakeholders, including REMCs, heavy industry, frontline communities, construction interests, labor unions, ratepayers, and the legislative and executive branches, with the guidance and support of the Executive Director.

The goal of Indiana Conservation Voters and its family of organizations is to ensure that Indiana’s elected officials are held accountable to Hoosiers who deserve clean energy, water and air. We envision an Indiana where the voices of voters, impacted communities, and future generations are centered, and where a new movement of engaged Hoosiers demand that their government prioritizes them and the land, air, and water on which they rely.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support coalition efforts to decarbonize heavy industry, through accountability tactics, research communications, and legislation, with a focus on frontline communities, organized labor, and economic development.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to environmental justice, educate legislative leaders on environmental justice and identify new initiatives.
  • Execute a plan to educate and train clean energy candidates for and directors of rural electric membership cooperative boards.
  • Identify clean energy policy’s relationship to political messaging and candidates for state and local office.
  • Educate select local government leaders on clean energy siting and energy efficiency and electrification in local building ordinances.
  • Help the Executive Director identify other energy policy verticals in which to expand, such as implementation of select programs from the Inflation Reduction Act, while providing strategic advice and support.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the mission, vision, values, and goals of the organization.

Required qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in Indiana state government, state government relations, in-state political campaigns, and/or grassroots advocacy.
  • Self-starter who is excited to create and take creative ownership of their own book of work.
  • Passion for environmental issues and advocacy for the state of Indiana.
  • Eager to learn quickly and across a broad range of subjects.
  • Preference for balancing multiple initiatives simultaneously as opposed to focusing on solely a single initiative.
  • Creative problem solver and experimenter who thrives when given the freedom to test their own assumptions and lead their own decision making.
  • Ability to quickly learn new topics and distill complicated concepts into easily understood intermediate steps and manageable action items.
  • Adept communicator who is capable of teaching others and projecting authority.
  • Strong focus on clear deadlines, deliverables, and measurable goals.

Preferred:

  • Existing relationships with staff from NGOs, Indiana state government, and industry.
  • Working knowledge of any area of energy policy and environmental justice.
