The Energy Transition Project lead will support WRI Indonesia in leading and managing the HSBC CSP Philanthropy project based in Pangalengan, Kab. Bandung, Jawa Barat. Demanding frequent travel to the project site, the responsibility includes stakeholder management, supervision of technology implementation, and control over research quality. He/ she should be able to manage the traffic of the matrix team, supervise the project progress and contribute to developing high-quality research products designed to inform targeted audiences and engage stakeholders at the West Java sub-national level from both state and non-state actors. He/ she is expected to play a role in representing WRI Indonesia in external forums/events related to energy transition and climate technology solutions. He/she will work independently under the direction and supervision of the Sr. Energy and Sustainable Business Manager at WRI Indonesia and work closely with other teams under the Energy and Sustainable Business Team.
What You Will Do:
Project Management:
  • Lead the development of the Energy Transition project, develop project work plan and budget, and conduct necessary steps to avoid delays and address problems to ensure delivery of project outputs and timely report to donors and partners.
  • Provide leadership to the overall implementation of the project including reporting.
  • Proactively identify and address opportunities and challenges of the project implementation internally or externally including adjusting strategies and approaches with support from Manager.
  • Ensure that data and information required for demonstrating program impact and lessons learned are collected and analyzed.
  • Manage and lead strategic meetings and coordination with KPBS Pangalengan, technology developers, donors, relevant government stakeholders, and local communities for smooth project implementation.
  • Oversee project budget, including budget planning, tracking and monitoring with the support of Project Assistant (PA), Project Coordinator (PC), and PMEL team.
  • Coordinate with relevant leads to mobilizing and orchestrating the Energy and Sustainable Business Team traffic in providing technical support.
  • Coordinates efforts internally with other teams (Comms, Program Teams, Operations) within WRI for project deliverables
  • Provide supervisory support in organizing the operational and paperwork related to project implementation, such as developing TORs, agreements, contracts, work authorizations and purchase orders.
Stakeholder Management :
  • Represent the WRI Indonesia Energy and Sustainable Business team in any external events or engagements relevant to the project.
  • Maintain good communication with key partners from donors, relevant government stakeholders, KPBS Pangalengan, technology providers and civil societies or communities.
  • Play a critical role in convening non-state actors on energy transition issues and facilitating productive stakeholder dialogue.
  • Provide guidance to the Communication Team on timely communication products and deliverables, including media engagement, blogs, reports, etc.
Research :
  • Able to initiate ideas and contribute to socio-economic analysis that supports the project’s deliverables.
  • Supervise formulating research products, knowledge management and data collection and analysis.
  • Review research plans and products, i.e., technical notes guidelines, knowledge products for capacity building, reports, etc., developed by the team.
What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Sociology or any relevant major with a good understanding and experience of climate-economy-social nexus at national and international levels and energy transition issues.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience working on environmental economics, climate, as well as community & development issues in rural or marginalized areas.
  • Knowledge of empirical methods used in socio-economic and environmental science.
  • Experience in project management best practices and delivery of project in a timely manner.
  • Ability to monitor and assesses data to aid leadership in decision making process
  • Ability to identify project risks and seek support to manage them with the Project Manager
  • Understanding on PMEL standards and tools, to support the monitoring of project performance against contract requirements.
  • Experience in budget management including tracks monthly spending of one or two projects. Tracks savings, burn rates, and variances against spending with support from manager.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement, organizing meetings with an excellent understanding of Indonesia’s climate, energy transition and sustainable development issues.
  • Experience working and maintaining partnerships with multi-stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and communities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment and cross-sectoral themes.
