Engineering Summer Intern
Wildlands Engineering seeks a motivated individual to assist our Charleston team through a field engineering summer intern position. We are looking for students enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. program for civil, biological, agricultural, or environmental engineering program or candidates enrolled in a landscape architecture or related applicable scientific or engineering discipline. The position is a paid, full‐time, hourly internship.

Job Description
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Assist with existing conditions assessment, design elements, construction document production, construction oversight, GIS mapping, monitoring and maintenance of stream, wetland, and riparian buffer mitigation projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats with individuals or groups.
  • Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem‐solving skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, and interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Occasional overnight travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Field data collection, geomorphic surveys, and groundwater monitoring.
  • Preparation of report figures in ArcGIS.
  • Preparation of construction plan sheet sets in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Basic engineering analyses including but not limited to hydrologic analyses, HEC‐RAS hydraulic model preparation, culvert capacity analysis, quantity take‐offs, and construction cost estimates.
  • Invasive species maintenance.

EDUCATION:
Two or more years of education with a minimum 3.0 GPA and an interest in water and natural resources, habitat restoration, field assessment, and/or environmental permitting.

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

  • Experience with surveying equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of various field monitoring protocols preferred.
  • ArcGIS and or/AutoCAD Civil 3D experience preferred.
  • PC/Windows‐based software experience required with proficiency in Word and Excel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Up to eight hours of intermittent standing or walking outside on unleveled ground in an eight‐hour workday.
  • Exertion of 21 to 60 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • The requirements of the job and the physical demands are frequently performed in outside weather conditions with frequent exposure to wet/humid conditions and extreme heat or cold.
