Engineering Technician
Central Klickitat Conservation District is seeking a qualified individual to fill a permanent Engineering Technician position. The primary role of this position is to perform drafting, mapping, surveying and field services to support a regional engineering program that implements agricultural and natural resource conservation projects.
The Engineering Technician position is part of a team of resource professionals working to implement the vision of the Central Klickitat Conservation District. Our vision is to be recognized by all private landowners as a source of financial, technical and educational assistance in Klickitat County; and by local, state and federal authorities as the organization ofchoice to implement on-the-ground stewardship activities. We serve the citizens of our community to ensure the long-term use of natural resources in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner using non-regulatory, voluntary approaches.
Introduction
The person in this position works proactively to assist the regional engineer to design and implement conservation practices on public and private lands throughout Klickitat and Yakima County. Typical tasks include surveying, drafting, mapping and construction oversight.
Primary Job Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting of project designs
o Production of construction sheet sets from model space design drawings
o Incorporation of survey data and surface creation
• ArcGIS mapping
• Assembly of construction specifications
• Environmental permit applications
• Surveying for design, stakeout, and as-built purposes
• Bidding and contract management
• Construction oversight
• Conducting field visits to collect data, evaluate design alternatives and lead project walk throughs for grant funders and potential construction bidders
Qualifications
Candidate must be a US citizen or eligible to legally work in the US. This position requires an individual with drafting, mapping and surveying knowledge/experience. The desired candidate must also have the ability to work on multiple projects and adjust priorities as necessary based on program needs; must be self-directed and motivated with an aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving; and must have the ability to work closely, cooperatively, and in a nonconfrontational manner with others in a public office environment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Office and outdoor environment with regular travel to a variety of locations to conduct work and may be exposed to typical hazards encountered at such work sites. Field visits and field work at project sites requires ability to safely traverse uneven ground in varied weather conditions; occasionally carrying up to 45 pounds of equipment and/or materials. This is a full-time, non-exempt position consisting of 40 hours/week. Position may require some occasional work after regularly scheduled work hours.
Licenses, Certificates & Other Requirements
Valid State Driver’s License at time of hiring with maintenance thereafter.
Compensation & Benefits
This position’s starting wage range is $22-$35/hour ($45,760 to $72,800 annually) DOQ. This position receives enrollment in Washington State retirement and health insurance programs, annual leave, family/medical leave, and holiday pay. Part-time employees receive prorated benefits based on scheduled hours and personnel policy. Terms of compensation and benefits are set by the District Manager and Board of Supervisors and may be amended at any time. This position reports direct to the District Engineer. The position is subject to an “employee at will” doctrine. The omission of specific statements of duties and responsibilities does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position
