SOS MEDITERRANEE is an international humanitarian organization dedicated to saving lives at sea.
Founded in 2015 , the initiative emerged as a response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Central Mediterranean and the lack of adequate state rescue capacity on the deadliest maritime migratory route in the world Created by a group of European citizens, our maritime and humanitarian organization has three missions:
1. To rescue people in distress at sea
2. To protect and assist survivors on board our ship
3. To bear witness and raise awareness about the tragedy unfolding in the central Mediterranean.
Today, SOS MEDITERRANEE is a network composed of four European entities (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland) sharing the objective to support our rescue operations at sea.
Search and Rescue (SAR) operations have been carried out since February 2016 in the Central Mediterranean off the Libyan coasts with the chartered ships Aquarius and Ocean Viking. To date, over 39, 000 people have been rescued by SOS MEDITERRANEE.
Mission Objectives :
Under the leadership of the International Development Director, reports to the English Communications Manager to develop and implement an international digital marketing and communications strategy to enhance SOS MEDITERRANEE’s online presence, bolster international visibility, and engagement. This aims to support international development and drive international fundraising and advocacy efforts.
Key Responsibilities :
1.Digital Engagement Strategy Development and Implementation :
- Develop and implement an international social media and digital communications strategy aligned with SOS MEDIT ERRANEE’s international development goals.
- Manage content creation, scheduling, and dissemination across various digital platforms.
- Conduct digital innovation monitoring in the international humanitarian sector, and drive innovative approaches for online engagement, storytelling, and brand awareness.
2.Support Fundraising efforts :
- Enhance digital fundraising efforts, contribute to fundraising campaigns, and measure campaign impact.
- Oversee sponsorship, tracking, affiliation, display, and referencing activities, in coordination with European fundraising teams.
- Enhance understanding of target audiences and acquisition/development opportunities (media strategy/space purchase).
- Select and oversee external partners and providers in the digital domain.
- Manage traffic, visit, and conversion indicator reporting.
3.Digital campaigns and advocacy:
- Support the planning and execution of digital advocacy campaigns to drive change and promote SOS MEDITERRANEESOS mission, and humanitarian principles.
- Collaborate with European teams to amplify their initiatives and campaigns through digital channels.
4.Content Creation and Website management :
- Generate high-quality, compelling content including visuals, videos, and written materials in English for digital platforms, newsletters and international website.
- Upload and manage content on the international website, ensuring brand consistency and impactful storytelling.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Coordinate content creation.
5.Community Engagement and Outreach :
- Engage and build relationships with SOS MEDITERRANEE’s online community, responding to inquiries and fostering meaningful interactions.
- Implement outreach strategies to expand SOS MEDITERR’s international online audience and supporter base.
- Support international citizen mobilization efforts on social networks.
6.Social Media Management :
- Monitor international trends, analyze data, and optimize strategies based on analytics and insights.
- Collaborate with teams to support campaigns, events, and fundraising initiatives through social media.
- Participate in European online communications group to co-manage the creation and dissemination of content on social networks.
- Ensure daily monitoring and reporting on social networks (hateful speech, fake news).
7.General :
Attend weekly communication team meetings as well as inter-departmental meetings.
Profile :
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Journalism, Political Studies, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Proven experience ( 5 years minimum ) in digital communications or marketing, or similar roles, social media management, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
- Strong understanding and experienceand experience of various social media platforms, analytics of various social media platforms, analytics tools, digital marketing strategies tools, ((experience with google ads, meta-ads, etc.), SEO, and referencing.
- Proficiency in content creation, including graphic design, video editing, and copy writing, and regular use of DTP tools for digital content (Canvas, Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, etc.).
- English native speaker or equivalent proficiency with excellent written skills.
- A second language from the network: French, German, Italian, French, or Arabic would be an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of the international solidarity sector (especially relating to migration); knowledge of the maritime sectors is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrate creativity, rigor, meticulousness, and good stress management.

Conditions :
- Permanent contract (open-ended) or consultancy, starting as soon as possible.
- Location: France or Switzerland – with regular trips between different offices. Other locations can be discussed.
- Possibility of telecommuting (two days per week).
- Full-time position, working on a day-rate basis.
- Annual gross salary: according to SOS MEDITERRANEE’s salary grid and professional experience.
