The University of California, San Diego Health System seeks an individual to oversee the team tasked with the responsibility of daily operations of desktop engineering, which includes oversight of the automated application delivery platforms, installation, maintenance and support of desktop systems and applications as well the general administration of related server systems providing this functionality. The successful applicant will have a background in leading the implementation and administration of Microsoft centric desktop administration tools including the System Center suite of products, such as System Center Configuration Manager, System Center Orchestrator, Microsoft Intune in a multi forest active directory environment.

The incumbent will manage a team that is responsible for the entire desktop engineering automation stack and ancillary tools as well as providing escalation support. They also ensure that the engineers follow the best practices and standards for quality and security. The incumbent will provide planning and coordinating desktop application or configuration projects in conjunction with the Technical Coordinator; oversee the monitoring and troubleshooting of desktop engineering issues and incidents; provide technical guidance and support to desktop engineers, such as training, documentation, troubleshooting tips; and supervising and developing desktop engineers such as hiring, mentoring, evaluating and goal setting.

Incumbent will have advanced knowledge with a variety of software tools, including those related to support and implementation. Incumbents provide consultation and knowledge transfer with respectto a variety of authentication system and software components. General knowledge and experience running systems in the following areas is preferred: Windows Desktop andServer operating systems, Group Policy Management, Active Directory, and Powershell. Support knowledge and expertise with Cloud Computing technologies such as Azure Virtual Desktop administration and implementation is ideal.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience in the design and deployment of complex IS systems related to desktop engineering.
  • Ten (10+) or more years of relevant experience in the design and deployment of complex IS systems.
  • A certification in desktop engineering or related technologies, such as MCSE Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft Certified Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, ITIL, CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty.
  • Active Directory administration experience.
  • Windows 2012 and above administration experience.
  • System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) experience – application packaging, deployment, monitoring and patch management.
  • Supervision skills, including a high level of communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and team members. A proven ability to lead and manage projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $78,900 – $179,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $37.79 – $86.16

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
