Entry-Level Environmental Regulatory Specialist (Mid-Atlantic)

RES is looking for a Regulatory Specialist I or II to support our Fort Belvoir Project in Virginia, reporting to our Annandale VA office.

The mission: to support wetlands and stormwater programs at U.S. Army Garrison Fort Belvoir in project compliance matters according to the Clean Water Act Sections 404/401. The position provides regulatory guidance on capital projects and on permitting requirements for NEPA reviews and excavation permits. Occasional fieldwork is required to conduct wetland delineations, stream assessments, or confirm project boundaries.

Secondary responsibility is to provide support for the Industrial Stormwater Program at Fort Belvoir, including field sampling for stormwater, data processing and monthly reporting.

What your day-to-day might look like?

75% of your time will be spent on preparing regulatory documentation, including delineation reports, Biological Assessments, Biological Resources Inventories, and other site assessments, for submission to federal and state regulatory agencies. Technical writing skills and drafting of technical documents and regulatory permit packages will support your application.

25% focused on fieldwork, where you will perform wetland delineations, and field verifications, and support other field monitoring events as needed. 

Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), and performing other physical activities. 

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:

  • BA/BS in Wetland Ecology, Natural Resources, Botany, Soil Science, or applicable curriculum.
  • experience with environmental research or academic study will qualify a candidate.

What will make you stand out?

  • 1+ years of experience working in environmental consulting
  • Wetland delineations experience
  • Previous experience designing and/or building wetland restoration projects.
