About PIN programming among vulnerable populations affected by the conflict in Iraq

People in Need (PIN) is an international, non-profit organization providing humanitarian and development assistance in over 20 countries worldwide. Formed in 1992 in the Czech Republic, PIN has grown to be the biggest organisation of its kind in post-communist Europe, providing relief where it is needed, and empowering civil society at home and abroad. PIN began its work in Iraq in 2003, mainly in response to deteriorating humanitarian situation in the country and massive displacement of people from conflict-affected areas. Since then, PIN has maintained a strong presence in Iraq.

Apart from humanitarian aid, PIN is currently working on long-term programmes supporting restoring livelihoods, education, climate change and civil society & good governance programming (CSIG). 

About the role:

The role involves conducting structured observations of program activities to support monitoring and evaluation efforts. Using predefined tools, the observer will assess various aspects of implementation, including safety, security, logistics, adherence to the Code of Conduct (CoC), and safeguarding standards. Observations will be carried out based on program needs, with at least 48 hours’ notice to ensure availability. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to data collection protocols, and close coordination with the MEAL unit to ensure accurate and reliable reporting.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the MEAL Officer in daily data collection, ensuring adherence to provided training.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating PIN projects by conducting assessments using approved data collection tools (KoBo Collect, Microsoft Excel, Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, or other CP-required tools) and methodologies (individual interviews like registration, PDMs or KIIs, household surveys, DDMs, FGDs, classroom observations, and outcome surveys), both in-person and remotely.
  • Enter collected data accurately into the designated software/used tool.
  • Identify and report any challenges in the field or during data collection that may affect data quality. Report daily issues and challenges to the MEAL Officer.
  • Take responsibility for any entrusted project equipment.
  • Support the MEAL Officer in sensitizing target communities on PIN’s Community Feedback and Response Mechanism (CFRM) when needed.
  • Assist in conducting needs assessments/Labor market assessment or any kind of verification following established methodologies and tools.
  • Coordinate closely with the MEAL Officer to determine the weekly work plan and provide feedback after data collection assignments.
  • Regularly update the MEAL Officer on activity progress and coordinate with local stakeholders when requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the MEAL officer.

Main requirements:

  • At least two years of experience in data collection roles using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Prior training in data collection processes is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using data collection tools, particularly KoBo Toolbox and other tools like Microsoft Excel, Activity Info, Google Forms, and/or other relevant software is a plus.
  • Fluency in Kurdish (in KRI only) and Arabic is required; English (pre-intermediate level) is a plus.
