Duties and Responsibilities
The internship opportunity at the ESCAP Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia (SRO-ENEA) located in Songdo, Incheon, Republic of Korea, spans a minimum duration of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months as deemed necessary by the office. The internship is scheduled to commence from mid-March 2024. This internship is UNPAID and fulltime. Interns are expected to work five days per week (40 hours) and will be under the supervision of a designated staff member in their assigned office. Intern responsibilities will primarily center around researching environmental sustainability, particularly focusing on the North-East Asia Clean Air Partnership (NEACAP), a flagship initiative under the North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation (NEASPEC, www.neaspec.org). Additionally, interns will contribute to the planning and implementation of NEACAP activities. Duties include a range of tasks, including but not limited to: – Reviewing and analyzing literature and country policies related to air pollution and climate change; – Assisting in the implementation of NEACAP, particularly activities, with a specific focus on the joint research project on air pollution policies in North-East Asia; – Assisting in drafting and preparing official documents for events like the 6th Meeting of NEACAP Science and Policy Committee, NEACAP 1st Policy Dialogue and the International Symposium; – Attending and summarizing meetings; and – Providing support during meetings
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
