Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of the role:

This role will sit within the British Embassy’s Economic Climate and Science team (ECS) and the successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the team’s work across a wide portfolio of programmes and diplomacy initiatives related to the climate and nature agenda.

The successful candidate will work on a matrix management scheme, reporting to different team leaders at the same time and will work across multiple and evolving environments. The position is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in diplomacy and international cooperation, while learning about multiple subjects of the environmental agenda, supporting programme and project management and the delivery of diplomatic initiatives. The role will also work closely with different teams across the Embassy (FCDO), as well as liaise with other relevant UK government departments.

The successful candidate should have the ability to perform in tight deadlines, managing various pieces of work at the same time, with attention to detail and in an organised manner.

This position will report to the Team Leaders within the Economic Climate and Science team.

Roles and responsibilities

Events and meetings (20%):

  • Support to the organisation, planning and delivery of official events, meetings and visits, including the preparation of agendas, briefings, readouts and all related logistic activities including quotes, catering, venues, invitations.

Communications (20%):

  • Support the external and internal strategic communication of the ECS team:
  • Update the information of the team’s programmes, projects and initiatives.
  • Provide and deliver creative ideas for communicating the results and impact of the UK’s work in the nature and climate agenda under the UK-COL Partnership for Sustainable Growth.
  • Liase with the Embassy communications team for promoting call for proposals, events, visits, etc in the social media channels of the embassy and traditional press.

Research and reporting (20%):

  • Provide support with essential research on topics related with the team agenda, such as policies and recent developments from the UK and Colombian government and the international arena, on areas such as climate and nature, technology and innovation, and information from other relevant stakeholders. It is expected that the jobholder will produce draft documents and reports.

Administration (20%):

  • Work alongside the ECS team to deliver administrative tasks related to budget management, suppliers, payments, among others.

Programme and project management (20%):

  • To support the ECS team with tasks related with management of a portfolio of diverse programmes working in climate and nature under the International Climate Finance (ICF) UK’s commitment.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively engage in the wider Embassy activities, participate in committees and events. Any other task that might be required as part of the team’s daily activities.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate studies in International Relations, International Business, Political Science Government and Public Affairs, or related fields. Please be aware that this internship doesn’t count as a judiciary role (judicatura).
  • Must have the availability of at least 6 months before my graduation date (to complete the internship). Applicants who do not meet this requirement
  • Availability to start their internship on the proposed date: To be defined with candidate
  • Good knowledge of current national and international affairs.
  • Interest in international cooperation and programme and project management.
  • Experience in event planning and delivery.
  • Good knowledge and experience working with Microsoft 365 particularly Word and Excel.
  • Responsible, well organised and committed to the job.
  • Able to interact and collaborate with different stakeholders.
  • Excellent team work and communications skills.
  • Skilled in working under pressure and against deadlines, able to deal effectively with stressful and difficult situations while paying attention to details.

Language requirements: Proficient in Spanish and English

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Experience working with WordPress software.
