Environmental Volunteer Coordinator in Japan – 3 months (June to August 2024)
We are looking for a program instructor of our environmental volunteering program on the beautiful island of Sado in Western Japan for 3 months in the summer of 2024.
You will be the main instructor for international volunteers, responsible for defining, planning, and carrying out activities related to sustainable farming, sustainable living, and habitat restoration (increasing biodiversity on abandoned rice paddies). You need to be able to explain the activities, provide background information, and assist volunteers with fieldwork.
You will be part of a small team of young Japanese and foreign staff who run tented accommodations on the grounds of a historic Buddhist temple and are involved in program logistics, while you will be mostly responsible for the program contents.
You will also cooperate with local partners, such as rice farmers, conservation groups, the Buddhist monk of the temple, and other individuals. You will receive an orientation covering the general aims and purpose of the program and considerations for working with international volunteers and with remote local communities in Japan, but you will then have the opportunity to work relatively independently.
This is a fully paid position (around 300,000 JPY per month), and we can provide free accommodation and meals. W can assist with the visa process.
The job can be done in English, and no Japanese language skills are required.
