Environmental Education Program Coordinator

Overview: Catamount Institute is a nonprofit dedicated to connecting kids to the outdoors through engaging outdoor environmental educational programs. For the past 28 years, we’ve served tens of thousands of children in the Pikes Peak Region—engaging 5,824 youth in 2024 alone—and aim to reach 6,000 in 2025. We’re seeking a full-time Environmental Education Coordinator who is passionate about outdoor education programming, committed to excellence, detail-oriented, and adaptable. Summary: Reporting to the Director of Environmental Education, the Environmental Education Program Coordinator will handle the coordination of all aspects of Catamount Institute’s educational programs. This role involves overseeing program scheduling, registration, staff and volunteer scheduling, social media, marketing, and communication with key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be passionate about outdoor education and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently while providing excellent customer service to program participants, parents, teachers, and community partners. 

Essential Functions (Primary Responsibilities): 

The Environmental Education Program Coordinator will help ensure the smooth implementation of education programs that support Catamount Institute’s goals. The Environmental Education Program Coordinator will: 

• Coordinate all scheduling for all programs (such as summer camps, field trips, after-school, in-school, and homeschool programs).
• Coordinate staff assignments based on program needs and availability.
• Onboard and coordinate volunteers for programs and special events.
• Maintain the online calendar and registration system, ensuring accurate program availability.
• Communicate with parents, teachers, and community partners to provide information and address program logistics.
• Track program data, such as attendance and budget information, for organization and grant reporting.
• Collaborate with a third-party accountant for program invoicing and payment.
• Serve as a back-up educator for programs and step in to help facilitate programs, as needed.
• Collaborate with Executive Director, Director of Environmental Education, and community partners to develop and implement program MOUs and contracts.
• Regularly meet with the Director of Environmental Education and Executive Director to review educational programs, goals, and performance.
• Track progress and collect evaluation data for the program’s performance measures.
• Attend all required orientations, meetings, and trainings. These activities may occur in the evenings or on the weekends.
• Implement safety policies and procedures for programs and general operations.
• Collaborate with Catamount Institute educators to evaluate and improve youth programs.
• Assist with the various social media platforms for Catamount Institute.
• Update website with current program information.
• Prepare marketing plans for existing programs, which include flyers, timelines, and contacts.
• Attend fundraising and tabling events.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: 

• This position is primarily located in Colorado Springs, CO, at the Catamount Institute office in the Westside Community Center and at the programming building next to Sondermann Park. Some responsibilities will be at/for the Catamount Institute Mountain Campus in Woodland Park, CO.
• Work takes place in both indoor and outdoor environments, including natural areas, school settings, and community locations.
• This position primarily operates in an office setting with extensive use of a computer, phone, and other standard office equipment.
• This role requires prolonged periods of sitting, typing, and viewing a computer screen to manage scheduling, communication, and program logistics.
• Outdoor programs occur year-round and in varying weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
• Programs may involve hiking, setting up outdoor learning spaces, and physically active facilitation. Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Occasionally required to walk, stand, and engage with youth for extended periods. May also stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit on the ground as part of instruction.
• Sensory demands include visual supervision and auditory response in indoor and outdoor spaces.
• Driving a 15-passenger van, as needed, to transport youth, materials, or take vehicles in for maintenance is required.
• The standard work schedule is 40 hours per week. Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm. Some evening and weekend hours are required to support programs, events, or community engagement activities.
• May be exposed to insect bites, allergens, uneven terrain, and cleaning materials.
• Emotional resilience and a calm, professional demeanor are required in dynamic youth program settings.

Required Qualifications: 

• 2 – 5 years of experience with program logistics, program staffing, or other coordinating roles.
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (education, business, etc.).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; computer literate.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to balance many tasks at once.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through when designing and implementing MOUs and contracts.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and online registration systems. Experience or knowledge of Camp Brain, Canva, Jot Form, Meta Business Suite, and/or LinkedIn is a plus.
• Adaptable, dependable, and able to take initiative in changing environments and with varying schedules.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Ability to professionally engage with youth, families, school staff, and community partners.
• Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in education and the workplace.
• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and at least 25 years of age (for van insurance eligibility).
• Reliable transportation.
• U.S. Citizenship or lawful permanent resident status.
