During the year, SNAP members will gain skills and technical training, mentor with outstanding environmental leaders, and help to conserve some of our most treasured landscapes. SNAP AmeriCorps members are passionate and committed to the mission of the Sierra Nevada Alliance, SNAP and AmeriCorps. Position Title: Environmental Education Program Facilitators (2)

Sierra STEM is a June Lake-based nonprofit organization that offers experiential learning, science enrichment, and outdoor education programs for school-aged kids. Sierra STEM partners with schools and nonprofits to run a variety of experiential learning and community building programs including: multi-day backcountry adventures, overnight frontcountry trips for out-of-town student groups, STEM-focused day camps for local kids, community/school retreats, and other hands-on educational programming in our local mountain communities.

The Sierra STEM Environmental Education Program Facilitator (EEPF) plays a dynamic and mission-critical role in advancing high-quality, place-based STEM education in California’s Eastern Sierra Nevada. This position is at the heart of our seasonal programming, helping to shape and deliver transformative outdoor learning experiences that connect young people to science through direct exploration of the natural world. Our programs fall into three broad categories: camps and workshops serving local students, multi-day experiential learning trips for visiting school groups, and programs in partnership with local schools. Our goals with all of these programs are to inspire students to engage in meaningful action to sustain our natural world; encourage growth through self-reflection; welcome everyone into our community with compassion; and to support each other as we face physical, emotional, and intellectual challenges.

Beyond program delivery, the EEPF strengthens Sierra STEM’s organizational capacity by contributing to curriculum innovation, expanding environmental education initiatives, and representing Sierra STEM in the broader community. This is a highly collaborative role for someone energized by youth development, outdoor education, and the power of experiential learning to inspire lifelong connection to science and to place.

By the end of the season, the Environmental Education Program Facilitator will:

• Design and deliver impactful STEM curriculum to hundreds of children that is hands-on, inquiry-based, and deeply rooted in the ecosystems of the Eastern Sierra.
• Lead transformative outdoor learning experiences during summer camps and multi-day field programs, ensuring programs are safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
• Strengthen Sierra STEM’s environmental education footprint in the Mono Basin and Yosemite region through thoughtful program implementation and relationship-building.
• Expand community visibility and engagement by representing Sierra STEM at local events and contributing to outreach efforts, including social media storytelling.
• Increase organizational capacity by helping refine curriculum, document best practices, and contribute to systems that support program growth.
• Inspire environmental stewardship and scientific confidence in youth participants through meaningful, memorable, and well-facilitated experiences.
• Develop new professional skills through training in environmental education, teambuilding and communication, risk management, grant writing, wilderness medicine, and possibly other domains, in collaboration with our expert team.

Desired Qualifications:

• Background in science and/or education (coursework or relevant experience)
• Experience with formal or informal education program development delivery and administration.
• Ability to present educational programs to both adult and student audiences
• Public speaking and outreach skills
• Ability to serve with local community members, conservation groups, and agencies
• Experience organizing events
• Experience creating professional content for social media
• Skills facilitating and/or participating in group meetings
• Ability to lay out service tasks, identify resources, focus and complete tasks on time
• Self-motivated and takes initiative.
• Strong writing skills
• Independent, highly motivated, and able to meet deadlines with limited supervision
• Passion for the natural environment
• Proficiency using personal computers and internet (especially Google Suite: Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
• Ability to travel throughout the region
• Physical ability to perform strenuous activities at high elevations

National Service Benefits:

• $2,773 per month living stipend per month for the term of service.
• Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of hours for the enrolled term of service.

National Service Qualifications:

• Must be 18+ years of age and high school graduates or GED recipients (or minimum of 17 and working toward a high school diploma or GED); members must agree to obtain either a diploma or GED before using an education award; meeting full list of member eligibility requirements in 45 CFR §2522.200(a)
• Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident
• Must participate in a national criminal history background check pursuant to 45 CFR §2540.200-206
