Dates and Hours: Start date is June 1st and end date is August 14th, working 40 hours per week, primarily Monday – Friday 8AM – 4PM, occasional evenings and Saturdays. Pay is $15.00/hr, some unpaid time off is allowed during the internship period.
Housing: Free shared housing available 4 miles from the Nature Center
Job Requirements: Candidate must be at least 18 years old, and ideally pursuing a career in environmental education or early childhood/elementary education, have experience working with children, possess a love of nature, and be comfortable working outdoors. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
Job Description: Woodland Dunes Nature Center is seeking one motivated intern to assist with all aspects of education. This includes:
- Teaching nature-themed day camps for children ages 4-16
- Planning and preparing materials for camps and programs
- Teaching family programs
- Assisting with and participating in adult education programs
- Organizing the education room and outdoor play area
- Helping with daily operations of the Nature Center such as cleaning, greeting visitors, etc.
Woodland Dunes offers a dynamic work environment and summer is busy with increased visitation, increased programming and an increase in habitat restoration activities in the preserve. When possible, Woodland Dunes offers interns the opportunity to participate in other hands-on experiences such as water testing, bat surveys, writing nature-themed articles for local media, bird surveys and more. The Environmental Education Intern will work primarily with the Education Coordinator and the Naturalist.
