The IRC Yemen began its programs in October 2012. Since establishing its presence in the South of Yemen, in the Red Sea Coastal city of Aden, the organization has grown from just an implementing small project to handling large scale emergency and relief operations. Following the war which broke out in Yemen in March of 2015 and the humanitarian disaster, which was crafted by the same, IRC launched one an emergency response program in the southern governorates of Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Shabwah and Aldalea. Currently IRC Yemen is operating in eight governorates in the south and north of Yemen and Sana’a and Hodeidah in the North through direct programming and through local partnerships, in Health, WASH, Nutrition, Economic Recovery Development, Education, Child Protection, Gender and Women Protection and Empowerment.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) have been working in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for more than forty years. Today, the IRC has more than 2,200 staff working across the region, including in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, and Yemen to support those affected by some of the world’s most complex and protracted humanitarian crises.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Health Manger the assistant willbased in Al-Dhale’e Governorate will be in direct monitor daily hygiene promotion activities through training and daily follow-up of volunteers and providing technical support, Preparing and distributing awareness materials “IEC”. Follow up on chlorination and treat water in health facilities, in addition to following up on water delivery by trucks.
JOB SUMMARY:
The main objective of this position is to support the EH Manager in implementing hygiene promotion activities in the community’s day to day activities. This includes training of Community Hygiene promoters and hygiene awareness in the communities.
WORKING RELATIONS:
The EH Assistant-Hygiene Promotion will be based in Al-Dhale’e and report to the EH Manager, and will be supported technically by HP Senior Officer based in Aden, will be primarily responsible for supervising implementation of hygiene promotion activities at village level as directed by the EH Manager
- Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC [team/office]
- Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.
- Directly manage the day-to-day hygiene promotion activities in the field
- Conduct orientation and meetings at the district/village level to ensure a good understanding of the WASH project at the community/stakeholder level.
- Ensure that hygiene promotion activities meet stated objectives within the timeframe.
- Ensure program activities foster accountability to beneficiaries, gender and protection sensitivity and inclusion are adequately addressed in programming.
- Distribute Information, Communication and Education (IEC) materials to Community hygiene Promoters.
- Provide technical support and training for hygiene promoters and community volunteers.
- Provide regular reports, document results, and maintain detailed records.
- Provide weekly reports of progress on hygiene promotion activities.
- Follow up on water treatment with chlorine in Health Facilities, as well as supervise the supply of water to health facilities or any other location.
- Participate in the evaluation process and determine the need for projects. Identify target areas for the distribution of family hygiene kits.
- Ensure monthly payment requests for CVs (including participant’s costs, incentives) are prepared and submitted to the HR department on time.
- Managing the distribution of cleaning materials to Health facilities and hygiene kits to clients
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS: (Qualifications, Skills and Abilities):
A.Education:
The applicant must have a degree in community health, environmental health, environmental/civil engineering, or any related degree.
B.Experience:
Experience in implementation of hygiene promotion activities. It is preferable to have at least one year of experience in this field.
C.Skills and Abilities:
- Competent communication skills, effective in representation and liaison
- Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well.
- Fluent spoken and written Arabic and working knowledge of English.
- Competent user of MS Applications: Word and Excel
D.Proficiencies:
·Ability to train and raise awareness.
·Ability to resolve conflicts and problems.
