About the Position

This is supervisory level scientific work with responsibility for providing expertise in the areas of coastal resource management and regulation. This position will serve as part of the Coastal Resources Management team. The candidate will be the MDMR project manager for Outer Continental Shelf (OSC) project reviews and Coastal Zone Consistency determination reviews with the Bureau of Wetlands Permitting. The candidate will direct, coordinate, and supervise the Federal Consistency Program; and will be responsible for planning, scheduling, budgeting, monitoring, analysis, reporting, control, and evaluation functions associated with the project. The candidate will coordinate with Grand Bay NERR and Office of Restoration and Resiliency staff, within the Department, on resilience projects and should have experience in technical writing, land management and/or resource management. The candidate will work closely with office leadership to write and manage multiple office specific grants. This is a time-limited position.

What you’ll need to be Successful

The ideal candidate must possess good verbal and written communication skills, be able to appropriately interact with a wide variety of people, including members of local, state, and federal regulatory entities, land use developers, economic developers, port and harbor officials, environmental consultants, business and community leaders, special interest groups, and the public. The ideal candidate will have the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to implement multiple project tasks simultaneously and ability to work effectively with others. The incumbent provides functional supervision of lower-level professional scientists and works with them in a training capacity. The duties are performed using considerable independent judgment and discretion under the general supervision of the Bureau Director through periodic meetings and conferences.

Desired Qualifications

Includes experience or familiarity with NOAA’s Coastal Zone Management Program, Mississippi’s Coastal Wetlands Protection Act, MDMR’s Coastal Management Program, interpretation and enforcement of state or federal regulations, familiarity with resiliency projects, independent decision-making, and functional supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

Requires Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 4 – 6 years of experience.
