Environmental Technician (Seasonal/Temporary-April to October 2024)

This position will support a number of projects and activities varying by the time of year and skill set of the applicant. Daily and weekly tasks are dependent on the status of current projects and will be directed by the Project Manager(s), with oversight from the Programs Manager. The Environmental Tech will communicate with project staff to identify project needs and plan their daily/weekly/monthly schedules. The individual must be highly motivated, enjoy working in a team environment, be flexible to changing workload priorities, have strong written and verbal communication skills, and have an ability to execute assignments efficiently and in a timely manner. This position allows for a diverse workload both in the office and the field work. This position offers a flexible work schedule with the ability to work remotely as well as in the office; and a fun, fast-paced, positive work environment. Successful applicants will “wear many hats” at the RCD.

The position is temporary (April-October), full time, 30-40 hours per week, non-exempt and hourly.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

General programmatic areas and associated skill sets that the Environmental Tech will support include the following:

  • Agriculture Soil & Water Management: assist with irrigation evaluations for the Mobile Irrigation Laboratory (MIL) program, soil sampling, water quality sampling, stream flow monitoring, and technical assistance support
  • Education & Outreach: coordinate with Project Manager to plan and facilitate outreach events, develop materials for outreach on a project-specific basis, expand outreach to underserved groups, interact with interested landowners/ land managers, update social media, attend events
  • Project Support: assist with vegetation monitoring, construction support, biological surveys, data entry, technical writing, initial site assessments for new projects, GIS or Google Earth mapping and manage trail cameras
  • Other duties as assigned.
