Environmental Technician Summer Intern
Wildlands Engineering is seeking a motivated individual to assist our Raleigh team through an environmental technician summer intern position. We are looking for students enrolled, or having recently completed, a B.S. or M.S. program for environmental or biological sciences, landscape architecture, forestry, or related applicable scientific discipline. The position is a paid, full‐time, hourly internship.

Job Description
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Assist with existing conditions assessment, GIS mapping, monitoring and maintenance of stream, wetland, and riparian buffer mitigation projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats with individuals or groups.
- Ability to safely perform physical labor while outdoors in adverse conditions.
- Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem‐solving skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, and interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Occasional overnight travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Vegetation assessments, geomorphic surveys, and groundwater monitoring.
- Field data processing and analysis.
- Monitor and assist with maintenance of stream and wetland restoration projects, including invasive species control.
- Preparation of map figures in ArcGIS.
- Existing conditions field data collection.
EDUCATION:
Two or more years of education with a minimum 3.0 GPA and an interest in water and natural resources, habitat restoration, field assessment, and/or environmental permitting.
EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
- Experience with surveying equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of various field monitoring protocols preferred.
- Willing to work in rural settings in the vicinity of livestock.
- Ability to work both independently and with others in the field.
- Knowledge of native and invasive plants of the southeast preferred.
- ArcGIS and or/ArcPro experience preferred.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- PC/Windows‐based software experience required with proficiency in Word and Excel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Up to ten hours of intermittent standing or walking outside on unleveled ground in a ten to twelve hour workday.
- Exertion of 21 to 60 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
- Ability to safely use herbicides and hand tools or willingness to learn.
The requirements of the job and the physical demands are frequently performed outdoors with exposure to insects, poison ivy and adverse weather.
