ESTATE REWILDING COORDINATOR (Part-Time Consultant 2 – 3 days per
week)
LOCATION: Various as required – Amberley Wildbrooks, Castle Brooks, Downs Farm – Amberley, Danhill – West Chiltington
REPORTS TO: Estates Operations Manager (EOM)
RESPONSIBLE FOR: No direct reports
COMMUNICATORS: CEO, Estates & Facilities Team, Finance team and External Agencies.
MAIN PURPOSE:
Develop and execute the rewilding, restoration and conservation strategy for Nyetimber across
multiple areas of the land. Promote a holistic approach to reintroducing wildlife and natural
processes to reverse biodiversity loss and enable nature to thrive in the area. This includes
bringing back missing species and enhancing diverse habitats that are sensitive and considerate
of the local area.
SCOPE:
This position involves a blend of strategic planning, project management and stakeholder
management whilst also requiring a hands on approach to fieldwork, involving a range of
practical landscaping tasks in a variety of conditions including wetlands, wildflower meadows
and woodlands.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning & Projects
- Develop a clear rewilding strategy, proposals and models for approval, which are
continuously progressed and documented. - Initiate the above, in close interaction with the EOM and CEO, and provide them with
detailed updates on any progress in writing and through scheduling regular meetings, depending
on the phase and as required. - Implement projects for rewilding, conservation and restoration in line with the rewilding
strategy and vision. - Create management plans, which are continuously upgraded and adapted to regulations,
including SSSI compliance where required, registration, monitoring, consents and processes. - Produce and manage budgets for all approved rewilding projects as well as landscaping,
planting, and protection/defence solutions where appropriate. - Explore grant opportunities and secure resources and funding for the delivery of the
Estate’s strategic priorities. - Coordinate projects and delivery plans which ensure the Estate meets its strategic targets
and objectives. - Engage with South Downs National Park and Natural England to create new land management
plans for areas within SSSI regulations. - Provide excellent verbal and written communication to the EOM, with progress and objectives
being well documented and openly discussed with both EOM & CEO.
Operations
- Using expertise and knowledge, assess the diverse areas of land and formulate plans to
improve the broad variety of environmental challenges. - Carry out inspections and test plans for viability and suitability.
- Undertake a full range of landscaping tasks in a variety of conditions including wetlands,
wildflower meadows and woodlands; set standards for maintenance and building upkeep and plan
accordingly. - Ensure estate management plans, survey and monitoring programmes, grazing and agri-
environment schemes are implemented. - Assess current control measures and introduce new strategies to manage flooding, fencing,
public access routes, hedges, ditches and grazing that maximises biodiversity, carbon storage,
and essential eco benefits. - Manage sub-contractors, volunteers or staff as required.
Health & Safety
- Follows all safety instructions, proactively reports hazards and incidents in the
workplace, and collaborates with H&S to continuously improve and develop work safe
solutions.
Brand Champion
- Develop effective relationships that add value to internal and external customers.
- Act as a brand champion in all interactions ensuring relationships are built on mutual
trust.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Degree in relevant subject (e.g. Ecology, biodiversity, land management) or equivalent
experience. - A sound multi-disciplinary background with experience of landscape conservation.
- Experience coordinating project plans: prioritisation, influencing and budget management.
- Data analysis: interpret physical site information (soil chemistry and geology, hydrology,
proximal seed sources etc), existing quantitative and modelled data (e.g. current habitat and
biodiversity maps), combined with information about habitat outcomes (e.g. known patterns of
habitat succession and impacts of particular management or natural processes). - Familiar with published literature, able to gather and interpret expert opinion to
influence and inform stakeholder groups. - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a driving license and access to a car in order to travel to sites accordingly
