How can you make a difference?

The Ethics Manager is a member of the Ethics Office senior management reporting to the Director of the Ethics Office and, when required, serving as an Officer in Charge in the absence of senior managers of the Ethics Office. The Ethics Manager assists in managing and supervising junior staff as well as consultants in the office. The role involves supporting the Ethics Office senior management in running the office as well as taking a proactive role in fostering staff awareness of UNICEF standards on ethical behavior, the prevention of conflicts of interest, proper conduct and sound business practices in accordance with the United Nations Regulatory Framework. A significant function of the position is to advise management and staff in promoting an organizational culture and work environment characterized by high ethical standards and in full compliance with the UN Regulatory Framework.

Key functions and responsibilities:

Policy/Advocacy: The Ethics Manager, responsible for formulating, reviewing and disseminating ethics related policies and providing guidance related to ethical issues.

Advice to Management: The Ethics Manager in collaboration with the Ethics Office senior management provide guidance to UNICEF managers to ensure that UNICEF’s policies, procedures, and practices reinforce and promote the ethical standards under the UN Charter

Financial Disclosure: responsible for strategic development and implementation of UNICEF’s Financial Disclosure Program.

Reporting: leads the gathering of data, analysis and drafting of the initial Ethics Office annual report

The incumbent to this role is expected to have special responsibilities in advising staff on managing child safeguarding risks and in taking appropriate measures to prevent any harm to children..

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have?

Minimum requirements

  • Education: Advanced University Degree in law, criminal justice, social sciences (e.g. industrial psychology, industrial laboure relations) or other relevant field and any other related fields.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 8 years professional work experience including 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of corporate or business ethics and related fields, preferably in the international arena. Significant experience in leading and conducting outreach and training and facilitating dialogues on ethics or related subjects, especially in the field is required.
  • Skills: ethics regulations, public speaking, decision making, prevention outreach
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables

  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
  • Discretion, Integrity, independence, influence, training.
  • Knowledge of current industry best practices relating to corporate ethics and business conduct/practice would be an asset.
  • Work in and exposure to multiple international organizational settings, culture and regulatory frameworks is an advantage.
