Background:

IDH is a foundation that works with businesses, financiers, governments, and civil society to realize sustainable trade in global value chains (e.g., tea, coffee, cocoa, palm oil, cotton, etc).

IDH’s activities focus on:

Convening: IDH brings public private stakeholders together, building trust, aligning different interests, and creating common language and understanding of the most pressing sustainability issues in a sector or a region.

Co-financing: IDH co-finances testing (and analyzing) new sustainable business models in sectors and landscapes.

Learning & Innovating: through prototyping IDH adapts, learns and innovates its approaches to make them more cost efficient, economically viable, scalable and ready to be embedded and institutionalized by others. IDH publishes insight reports, monitors progress and commissions frequently 3rd party impact research.

The IDH Brussels Office is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive EU policy and communications intern to support our team with online and offline communication activities, events management, EU policy monitoring and analysis and administrative support for a maximum period of 6 months.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow the EU policies around sustainable food systems and broader sustainability.
  • Provide written reports from press reviews, other sources and events on the relevant topics
  • Support in the preparation of meetings with EU representatives (briefs, agendas, presentations, reports);
  • Support in the preparation of the internal learning and coordination events around EU policies.
  • Assist in the implementation of the EU communication action plan and EU engagement strategy;
  • Manage database and mailing lists.
  • Draft articles, reports, minutes, etc.
  • Conduct research.
  • Assist with visual design;
  • Support in events management, scheduling meetings and administration.

What you bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., communication, public relations, political sciences, EU studies, international development, environment)
  • Experience in creating written and visual content is an advantage;
  • good organizational and communication skills, as well as a proactive approach
  • ability to work both independently and in a team
  • excellent level of English, spoken and written.
  • Knowledge of EU decision-making processes, EU policies and EU institutions is an advantage.
  • Flexibility to perform a wide variety of tasks in a small office;
  • Valid work permit for Belgium

What we offer:

  • Remuneration according to a CIP (‘professional immersion contract’), which will provide the successful candidate with an income of 1.120 EUR per month;
  • Working experience in Brussels in a small and dynamic team;
  • Access to European networks;
  • Possibility to work independently and acquire new skills.
