Main tasks :

Policy analysis :

  • Foresight monitoring on various issues (Green Deal, Farm to Fork, CAP, CMO for fruit and vegetables, promotion and consumption of F&V, research and innovation, etc.) and news from the European institutions.
  • Regular information from the association’s General Secretariat on European policies, position papers, reports, regulations in preparation, calls for tenders and work programmes in the above-mentioned areas.
  • Informing AREFLH members by drafting briefing notes and other summary documents following political negotiations relating to the issues being monitored and on the processes underway at EU level.

Advocacy :

  • Drafting of AREFLH position papers.
  • Participation in meetings of the European Commission, the European Parliament and various events to represent the association to European institutions and delegations.
  • Making contact with the relevant European institutions, developing synergies with the representations of the member regions in Brussels, and with European professional and inter-professional agricultural organisations.

Working as part of the AREFLH administrative team:

The EU Policy Officer will report to the General Secretary of the association and will work with the whole of the administrative team depending on the project.

  • Monitoring calls for tender under European programmes (Horizon Europe, Life and promotion programmes in particular).
  • Follow-up of tasks and administrative management of European projects in which AREFLH is a partner, in collaboration with the General Secretary and the European Projects Officer.
  • Working closely with the Communications Officer: translations and content writing for communications to members and the newsletter.

Skills and qualities required:

The successful candidate must :

  • Have a postgraduate degree.
  • Technical and political knowledge of the Green Deal, Farm to Fork and Common Agricultural Policy (desirable).
  • In-depth knowledge of EU institutions and legislative procedures (required).
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in English and French (required). Fluency in Italian or Spanish would be desirable.
  • Ability to analyse and summarise.
  • Team spirit.
  • Be autonomous and rigorous.
  • Ability to be flexible in terms of working hours and allocation of tasks.

Job description :

  • Location: Brussels, with occasional travel within Europe for events and meetings.
  • Desired start date: 1er July 2024.
  • Duration: permanent contract.
  • Full-time position (38 hours per week), remuneration according to profile.
