The EuroTech Universities Alliance is looking for an enthusiastic EU policy trainee for a 4-6-month paid internship in our Brussels office, starting between mid-November and early January.

As a EuroTech EU policy trainee, you will work closely with our Brussels team and gain hands-on knowledge and experience in EU Research and Innovation policy as well as exposure to advanced technology fields.

Our Brussels’ office team plays a central role in delivering the EuroTech 2030 Strategy, mainly by:

• implementing strategic collaboration programmes between our member universities on topics such as start-up incubation, research and technology infrastructures, research funding and researchers’ mobility, etc.;
• coordinating our activities and science-for-policy advise in key research and technology areas such as AI and robotics, semiconductors, photonics and quantum, advanced materials, energy systems and biotech;
• monitoring and analysing policy developments, managing working groups of experts from our universities, preparing briefings and reports, contributing to externally-funded research projects in strategic policy fields, etc.;
• managing and strengthening relationships with EU institutions, key stakeholders, and relevant organisations across the R&I stakeholder communities, mainly through the organisation and participation in events, workshops and meetings.

About the role

Tasks:

• Monitor European and international developments in research, innovation, and education policy in areas of strategic relevance to the Alliance;
• Contribute to the Alliance’s strategic communications by drafting content for the website, social media, newsletters, and press releases;
• Support the coordination, organisation, and preparation of meetings for selected working groups and strategic research and technology areas;
• Assist in the organisation of events and workshops hosted by the Alliance;
• Attend external events and workshops on behalf of the Alliance and prepare briefing materials and background notes to support the participation of Alliance speakers;
• Support the development and implementation of a sustainability plan for the Brussels office.

Your profile:

• A master’s degree in a relevant field (obtained or currently being pursued);
• An interest in EU research & innovation and education policy, with specific interest in science and technology fields;
• A first experience in a similar role or eagerness to build on relevant academic or profesional exposure is considered an advantage;
• Good interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset, with the ability to engage effectively with others and work as an integral part of a team;
• Strong analytical, writing and communication skills with willingness to learn and grow in a stimulating environment;
• Good organisational skills, a keen eye for detail, and a problem-solving approach;
• Proficiency in IT tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel); familiarity with WordPress and e-mail marketing systems like Mailchimp is an asset;
• Excellent command of spoken and written English;
• Legal entitlement to work in the European Union.
