Position description

Do you have excellent data management skills and a passion for EU politics, policy and public affairs?

The Political Intelligence team provides timely information and insight to clients seeking to shape policy making in the UK and EU. Working as part of the Dods People team, the successful candidate will play a leading role in the maintenance and development of our online service Dods People EU, a “who is who” database of key political and institutional contacts, and will play an important role in the team’s work in updating our database of EU political stakeholders. Our service provides vital support to the work of public affairs and communications professionals, as well as members of Parliament and the Commission.

You will be assisting the EU Reference Data Editor in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our MEP and European Institution Datasets, which are delivered to clients via our online Dods People service. With the aim to expand Dods’ footprint within the EU, you will need to be passionate about building long term customer relationships by understanding our customers need to have their finger on the pulse of an evolving political landscape.

What are we looking for?

The role would suit someone with some experience or knowledge of the EU political system and managing datasets. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Interest in European Union politics and a good understanding of the EU’s institutional structures.
  • Previous experience in data entry and desk research roles/projects.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel, and adept at learning new software packages.
  • Interest in using Microsoft SSMS, and an understanding of how the application works.
  • Ability to work accurately with good attention to detail, and stay motivated and focused during repetitive tasks.
  • A proactive person, able to use the initiative and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Good communication skills, written and spoken.
  • Team player.
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Someone with an undergraduate Honours or Masters in a relevant field.
  • Fluent in English. Knowledge of any other European languages is advantageous.

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Help deliver accurate and reliable online data within the EU datasets, ensuring high standards in accordance with our update schedules, best practice guidelines and house style.
  • Conduct regular desk research into key political stakeholders working within the EU institutions to update their information.
  • Assist with client queries and research requests relating to EU Data.
  • Help collate information for the weekly ‘Movers and Shakers’ newsletter.
  • Assist with the development of the reference datasets by using Microsoft SSMS.
  • Contribute to the development of data collection methods, maintaining and sharing best practice to help ensure all delivery processes are as efficient as possible.
