The Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA), a leading independent think-tank based in Dublin, Ireland, is currently seeking a full-time Researcher to contribute to the IIEA’s research and events programmes. Closing date for applications for this position is X August 2024.

Candidates would ideally have a first class honours Masters Degree in EU and International relations, public policy or law and work experience of up to 2-3 years would be desirable.

Candidates should have a deep knowledge of EU institutions, policy, politics, and the EU economy, and familiarity with themes such as enlargement, respect for rule of law, EU competitiveness and cohesion and the EU budget and the MFF.

As part of the IIEA research team, the successful candidates will develop their expertise in a few designated policy areas;  organise complementary public and private events; publish or contribute to research papers on designated policy areas; and facilitate the IIEA’s relations with key Irish and EU stakeholders, including government departments, NGOs, and universities.

The successful candidates will have an unrivalled opportunity to coordinate the Institute’s work in key policy areas set out below under the guidance of, and reporting to the Director of Research.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this position include:

 

  • Tracking and analysing significant developments in areas of EU policy
  • Organising a programme of keynote addresses, seminars, roundtable discussions, and workshops with high-level policymakers and thought leaders as part of the IIEA’s events programme
  • Writing analytical papers, blogs and explainers, and contributing to project reports
  • Liaising with chairs and members of relevant IIEA working groups and minuting meetings
  • Providing regular updates on developments in relevant policy areas and producing publications, including blogs and policy papers
  • Liaising, when required, with relevant Government Departments, and NGOs, think tanks, embassies and other relevant organisations in Dublin and elsewhere

 

 Requirements:

  • 1st class honours or high 2.1 post-graduate degree in a relevant field such as European Studies, Law, international relations or Political Science
  • Deep knowledge of EU policy
  • At least 1-2 years’ work experience in a related field
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and proofing skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to work within a team
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and efficiency
  • Ability to multitask and strong organisational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills,
  • Ability to interact with high-level dignitaries
