A Silver Lining Foundation is a nonprofit organization, founded
22 years ago to provide access to cost-free breast health testing
for women and men who are uninsured, underinsured or otherwise
ineligible for other breast-health testing programs. Through
its signature “Buy A Mom A Mammogram” program, the foundation has
funded nearly 30-thousand mammograms and diagnostic tests, saving
lives in the process. The foundation has grown to include a
network of 18 partner hospitals in northern Illinois. A

As Executive Director of A Silver Lining Foundation, you will be
responsible for the development of new funding and community
engagement, maintaining a positive public image, and effectively
communicating the organization’s mission and goals. Your
responsibilities will include building and managing relationships
with donors, board members, and other stakeholders, as well as
actively participating in fundraising activities at organization
and third-party events, donor-invited events, and outreach
events.
Responsibilities:
- Fundraising Leadership: Develop and implement
fundraising strategies to grow revenues, ensuring the organization
has the necessary resources to achieve its goals. Directly
participate in fundraising activities, including events and
outreach efforts. - Grant Writing: Oversee the application
process for financial grants given to nonprofit
organizations. - Relationship Building: Create new donor
relationships and manage and maintain relationships with existing
donors, board members, and other stakeholders. - Communication: Effectively communicate the
organization’s mission and goals to various stakeholders which
includes donors, beneficiaries, staff, board of directors and 18
partner hospitals. - Financial Knowledge: Understand the
organization’s financial needs, maintain fundraising records, and
have knowledge of invoices and payments. Work with staff, auditors,
and the board of directors to ensure compliance with all laws and
regulations. Manage the organization’s budget to see that
funds are allocated appropriately. - Project and Program Oversight: Oversee various
organizational projects and programs, including the annual
fundraising gala dinner, and fashion show. Create new programs as
warranted. - Data Management: Maintain records of data
regarding the organization’s mission and testing data by individual
donors when necessary. - Board Communication: Provide updates on
funding and programs to the board of directors on a regular basis.
Also, work with the board to identify and vet prospective board
members. - Team Support: Nurture office staff. Support
the team in achieving organizational goals. - Positive Image Maintenance: Uphold a positive
and ideal image of the organization to the public.
Requirements for a New Hire:
- College Degree: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
from an accredited institution - Nonprofit Leadership Experience: Minimum of 6
years of management experience in a nonprofit organization. - Fundraising Skills: Proven ability to
establish and maintain new revenue sources. - Knowledge of Nonprofit Governance:
Understanding of rules and regulations for nonprofit
organizations to ensure legal compliance. - Empathetic Personality: Possess a warm and
engaging personality. This is a relationship job. You will be
interacting with people at tough moments in their
lives. And understanding and a compassionate
personality is critical. - Flexibility: Understand this is often not a
9-5 position; must have the ability to adapt to a changing schedule
as needed. - Embrace the Mission: ASLF has an amazing story
of helping others in a time of need.
Desired Qualities:
- Multi-tasking: Ability to handle multiple
tasks simultaneously and adapt to changes. - Human Services Knowledge: Knowledge of the
human services field, including the medical and health care
industry. - Grant Writing Experience: Knowledge and
experience overseeing grant applications and submissions with
successful outcomes. - Expansion Orientation: A team builder who
inspires loyalty and is focused on organizational growth. - Bilingual: Ability to speak conversational
Spanish a plus.
Compensation:
The starting annual salary range is
$100,000 to $110,000, based upon the level of experience. The
Executive Director will also be eligible for an annual bonus based
on the achievement of performance goals set by the Board of
Directors. The Executive Director will be eligible to
participate in the foundation’s health benefits.
