Monadnock Conservancy was founded in 1989 by a group of friends who had an idea to create a local organization dedicated to helping neighbors and communities protect the land they love forever. Initially based in Dublin, New Hampshire, the group operated as a 501(c)(3) environmental organization and conserved 25 properties in 10 towns during its first decade.

Today, the Monadnock Conservancy is the premier land trust for the region, governed by a 12-member Board of Trustees and managed by a 10-person professional staff that work both hybrid and from an office in Keene, NH. Volunteer land stewards also help the Conservancy care for its conservation lands. As a donor-supported nonprofit, the Conservancy works on behalf of the interests and passions of the community, continuing the legacy of the first 35 years, while looking forward to the next 35 years and beyond. The Monadnock Conservancy has an operating budget of approximately $1.4M and total assets of approximately $10.8M.

The Executive Director of the Monadnock Conservancy will join an organization and lead in a moment of exciting change, within the Conservancy and the region, to support key conservation strategies. They will join a strong leadership team and a dedicated and active Board of Trustees in shaping the future objectives of the organization and its impact on the region, while supporting increased capacity in the organization to support its growing portfolio of activities.

The next leader of the Conservancy must be ready to join with the Board in pursuing strategic goals in land conservation and stewardship through a proven ability in strategic leadership, fundraising, program management and oversight, collaborative ventures, and constituency building.

The ideal candidate must have experience and proven success in expanding, diversification of approach and sustaining an organization’s funding base by raising significant resources from individuals, foundations, corporations, and public entities on behalf of its mission and organization. Executive level achievement in the fields of conservation, non-profit, policy, law, and/or related fields is preferred. Nonprofit management experience is desired.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in natural resources/environment is preferred. Knowledge of New Hampshire’s ecological landscape, cultural, and/or recreational attributes is beneficial.

A genuine and authentic connection to nature and the outdoors is required.

The anticipated compensation for this position is $120,000 – 140,000. Health, retirement, PTO, and other benefits will be negotiated with the selected candidate.
