About Us:
Lummi Island Heritage Trust is an accredited nonprofit land trust dedicated to preserving the nature of Lummi Island. We work in deep partnership with our community, guided by science and integrity, to preserve, nurture, and restore the island’s natural systems, honoring its cultural heritage, and cultivating community resilience.

Position Overview:
We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization into its next chapter. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in nonprofit leadership,  fundraising, and land trust management, along with a collaborative spirit and a deep love for land and community.

As Executive Director, you will be the strategic and operational leader of the organization—guiding staff, working closely with the Board, cultivating donor relationships, nurturing partnerships with regional and national land trust organizations, and serving as the public face of Lummi Island Heritage Trust. You’ll lead with vision, grounded optimism, and a steady hand, ensuring our mission thrives well into the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the organization.
  • Oversee land conservation, stewardship, and community engagement programs.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including major gifts, grants, and campaigns.

  • Support and collaborate with the Board of Directors and committees.
  • Ensure financial health, legal compliance, and organizational sustainability.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and donor engagement.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience managing staff and fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Passion for the LIHT mission and experience in conservation practices or a related field.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion and working with diverse communities.

Preferred:

  • Direct experience with land trust operations, including acquisition and stewardship.
  • Familiarity with climate resilience, habitat restoration, and community-based conservation.
  • Knowledge of Washington State land use and environmental policy.

Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to lead a respected, community-rooted land trust with a strong foundation, a passionate team, and a clear mission. If you’re a strategic thinker, a relationship builder, and a believer in the power of land to connect and sustain us, we’d love to hear from you.

Salary Range: $80-$90K, depending on experience, with a health benefit.
