Justice

Community Justice builds
power with and for communities of color to end gun violence. We are
dedicated to promoting social justice, uplifting marginalized
voices, and implementing innovative solutions to address systemic
issues. Our work spans across various sectors, collaborating with
diverse stakeholders to create lasting impact. 

Community Justice’s vision: 

    Build a community led by the people
    closest to the pain of everyday gun violence. Create a focus that
    consists of an inclusive and diverse vision beyond
    Transform the narrative on gun
    violence in the United States, and in particular in urban areas.
    Humanize the most impacted people in the movement, but not at the
    expense of marginalized communities
    Advance policy change to change
    behavior and norms around gun violence in communities of color.
    Prioritize non-carceral solutions and lift up the agency of Black
    and brown organizations.

Community Justice is a nonpartisan project of Tides Center. The
Executive Director will oversee all operations for the
organization’s 501c3 work, as well as for 501c4
programming. 

POSITION
SUMMARY

Community Justice seeks a
highly motivated, passionate, and experienced executive to lead the
organization, guiding the team in a fast-paced environment,
generating new revenue, overseeing operations, and ensuring the
successful implementation of the Community Justice strategy. The
Executive Director will supervise a dedicated and committed team
with diverse levels of experience in a fully remote setting with
regular in-person convenings or training.

The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in implementing,
articulating, shaping, and promoting Community Justice’s mission,
vision, and strategic direction and advocating for policies at the
local, state, and federal levels to end gun violence.

The new leader will oversee a committed staff and engage with
partners with a personal connection to gun violence. Community
Justice operates at a fast pace, is highly responsive, and is often
the first group on the ground when gun violence occurs.  The
Executive Director will serve as an anchor for the team, often
pulled in multiple directions, and will support and guide staff as
they juggle various critical activities.

The ideal candidate for this role is a visionary leader with a
deep sense of justice, a keen policy acumen, and an unwavering
commitment to the Community Justice mission and vision.  The
ideal candidate also brings a proven track record in fundraising by
cultivating partnerships and successfully navigating the landscape
of policy, public engagement, and grassroots organizing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Organizational Management

    Collaborate with the Board of
    Advisors to build on and implement the Community Justice
    strategy.
    Oversee and manage the organizational
    budget, cash flow, and revenue-generating efforts.
    Identify potential risks and
    opportunities to protect organizational interests within the
    organization and its environment.
    Monitor organizational operations for
    compliance with the Tides Center’s regulatory and legal
    requirements.

Fundraising Strategy

    Develop and implement a comprehensive
    fundraising strategy aligned with Community Justice’s mission,
    leveraging partnerships to achieve financial goals 
    Collaborate with the Community
    Justice Founder, the Board of Advisors, and stakeholders to expand
    the organization’s network to support growth and fundraising
    efforts.
    Identify, cultivate, and secure
    partnerships with donors, foundations, and corporate giving
    entities to expand the organization’s funding base.
    Drive initiatives to secure financial
    commitments, ensuring a robust and sustainable revenue stream.

 

Policy, Advocacy, and Political Navigation 

    Navigate the policy discussions at
    federal, state, and local levels. 
    Build and maintain relationships with
    key decision-makers.
    Continue to keep Community Justice as
    a leading voice on federal and national policy priorities for the
    gun violence prevention field. 
    Demonstrate a deep understanding of
    policy and legislative processes.
    Oversee the development and advocacy
    of the policy priorities to end gun violence and address systemic
    issues.
    Stay informed about relevant issues
    and advocate for change.
    Influence policy decisions that align
    with organizational objectives.

 

External Partnerships

    Spearhead and lead efforts in
    establishing national coalitions, fostering collaboration among key
    stakeholders in the field.
    Advocate for and empower survivor and
    frontline-led groups, ensuring their voices are central to
    organizational strategies and initiatives.
    Lead efforts to support national
    partnerships and campaigns for
    Proactively identify, cultivate, and
    secure new partnerships that align with the organization’s vision
    and contribute to its growth.
    Build and strengthen strategic
    partnerships with other organizations, elected officials,
    government agencies, and relevant stakeholders.

 

Brand Ambassador 

    Serve as the primary spokesperson in
    media appearances, public events, and high-level meetings.
    Serve as the organization’s key
    representative at media, social, or philanthropic events to
    strengthen the brand and communicate the organization’s
    message.

Team Leadership

    Provide visionary leadership to a
    remote staff.
    Effectively manage and lead growing
    teams.
    Recruit, train, and develop a
    talented team to lead critical departments and manage strategic
    organizational functions.
    Foster a collaborative and empowering
    work environment.
    Develop the organizational culture,
    promoting transparency and collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS

    Unwavering commitment to the
    Community Justice mission and vision.
    Minimum of five years of leadership
    experience in a relevant or adjacent field.
    Proven track record of successful
    fundraising for multimillion-dollar programs and partnership
    development.
    Strong understanding of gun violence
    policy, legislation, and important stakeholders within the gun
    violence prevention movement.
    Exceptional communication and
    interpersonal skills.
    Ability to lead and inspire remote
    teams in a fast-paced environment.
    Visionary mindset with the ability to
    adapt to evolving challenges.
    Willingness to travel extensively as
    required.

COMPENSATION AND
BENEFITS

The salary range is
$185,000 – $200,000.
Salary is commensurate with
qualifications and experience. Community Justice offers generous
benefits and a dynamic environment.

LOCATION
Remote.
