Statement of Primary Purpose
This position provides strategic leadership for SCC’s development
and fundraising activities. Promotes the progress of the College
and its community by: detecting and anticipating promising growth
opportunities; aligning and integrating conceptual initiatives
within an institutional framework; and identifying, capturing,
mobilizing and deploying resources to advance College driven
activities.

In addition, the ED secures philanthropic support and is
responsible for ensuring the establishment of annual and long-term
goals and strategies, securing revenue, drafting and reviewing
funding proposals and donor appeals, and tracking the status of
solicitations. The ED brings innovative outreach and strategies,
prompts the identification of priority areas and opportunities,
management of donor relationships, and timely and accurate
reporting. The ED operates and executes responsibilities in full
collaboration with the Foundation Board and College President. The
paramount objective is to enhance financial resources that support
the College’s mission and strategic priorities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Strategic Development:
• Retention and strengthening of current donors.
• Growing funds
• Development of annual and multi-year fundraising goals that
include expected revenue and
sources and create a detailed work plan to accomplish goals.
• Evaluating the status of fundraising activities and expected
revenues from prospects and
project funding on a multi-year basis.
• Working with college administrators and key program staff to
identify priority areas and
strategic opportunities for funding, including alliances and
collaborations with individual
donors and industries.
• Identifying ways to ensure the SCC Foundation’s existing
revenue-generating activities are
more predictable, lucrative, and sustainable over a multiyear
period.

Prospecting, Cultivation, and Stewardship:
• Identifying and researching potential new sources of funding,
including foundations and
individuals, through research, with external partners and staff,
and staying current on
trends and opportunities.
• Identifying and cultivating non-foundation institutional donors –
e.g. businesses and
associations.
• Tracking and documenting contacts, activities, and status related
to all funders and
prospects.
• Guiding the development of prospect materials such as funding
proposals/applications
• Meeting with and/or arranging meetings for key staff with current
and prospective
Funders.
• Ensuring that current donors receive timely updates and reports,
and are included in key
organizational activities such as the annual gala. Working with
marketing/communications staff to develop informational
materials.
• Maximizing the functionality of the Foundation’s database to
support donor cultivation
and relationship management.

Special Events:
• Planning and launching events that will engage, inform, and
recognize prospective and existing donors, alumni, corporate
partners, and community leaders.

Supervision of Grants Development:
• Direct oversight in the development, and submission of original
grant proposals and applications.
• Work with College senior administrative staff to detect and
anticipate promising growth opportunities, integrate conceptual
initiatives within an institutional framework, and facilitate the
development of strategic institutional priorities;
• Provide coordination and support to the President’s Office
related to special projects, strategic initiative
development;
• Provide leadership and support for the establishment and
maintenance of organizational relationships, partnerships and
alliances;
• Identify funding opportunities that address the College’s stated
mission and goals;
• Work with leadership to provide seamless resource development
support for the College and its community;
• Collaborate with College faculty, staff and community partners to
develop project ideas;
• Supervise the coordination and maintenance of grant-related
research & resource library and Office for Grant Activities web
page.
• Maintain centralized files for externally funded programs and
other activities.
• Act as a liaison with appropriate private and public funding
agencies and organizations; and
Facilitate the creation and implementation of policy and procedure
for the Office for Grant Activities.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities
• Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers
in a cooperative, courteous, and professional manner.
• Assist with the re-accreditation process.
• Serve on committees and teams as assigned.
• Comply with the college’s policies and procedures as outlined in
the Policies and Procedures Manual.
• Participate in the preparation of annual unit planning goals,
process improvement priorities, and new initiatives for the annual
Continuous Improvement Plan.
• Coordinate grant-related professional development for faculty and
staff.
• Direct projects and assume other duties as assigned by the
President.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:  Bachelor’s Degree in education,
creative or technical writing, public administration, or other
related field from an accredited college/university.

Preferred:  Master’s Degree

Knowledge and Skills
Five to seven years of related work experience required, to include
the evidence of the following:
• Proven history of successful fundraising experience, development,
or community outreach.
• Understanding of prospect research and grant development;
• Rich background in conceptualizing and designing projects,
programs and initiatives;
• Exceptional written, communication, organizational and
problem-solving skills;
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to function effectively
as part of a team;
• Ability to independently initiate, oversee and complete large,
complex projects;
• Advanced word processing, graphics and research skills;
• Ability to draft clear, concise narratives, correspondence,
budgets and other documents;
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other institutions of
higher education, schools, and agencies at the local, state and
national levels

Physical Demands
Sitting for long periods of time or standing for long periods.
Lifting supplies up to 25 pounds, bending.

Licensing Requirements
Related professional certification preferred.

Working Conditions and Environment
Office setting; periodic travel to meet with funders and partners;
work hours could include nights and weekends during peak
periods.

Equipment Operation
General office equipment, desktop computer, fund development
software/applications.
