Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations

Northern Michigan University is seeking applications for an
Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations. The
position will oversee the administration of a highly effective and
strategic program to support the philanthropic efforts of Northern
Michigan University. Responsible for day-to-day oversight of
Foundation and Alumni operations with primary responsibility for
annual funds, gift processing, fund reporting, effective
identification, cultivation and solicitation of major and planned
giving prospects, alumni relations, data and prospect management.
Responsible for both front-line fundraising and management of staff
and will hold a personal portfolio of major and planned giving
prospects. Responsible for building relationships with internal and
external constituents.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. Ten years of
progressively responsible experience in advancement. Seven years of
leadership and management experience at a director level or higher.
Five years of advancement leadership and/or development experience,
specifically with campaign strategy, management, alumni relations
programs and compliance matters.

Required knowledge/skills/abilities: Excellent communication and
presentation skills, both written and oral. Demonstrated analytical
thinking skills. Demonstrated financial analysis skills.
Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service. Ability to
orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously and work well with
limited supervision; evidence of ability to see projects through to
completion. Ability to lead, guide, direct, and develop
departmental staff. Possess a commitment to act personally and
professionally in a manner that demonstrates integrity, compassion,
accountability, respect, and excellence. Encompass traits of good
judgment and confidentiality in communication. Must be
strategically oriented, pro-active, knowledgeable about annual
fund, major and planned giving strategies. Ability to engage
diverse stakeholders to include families, students, faculty,
alumni, professionals, university leadership and others.
Demonstrated track record of building donor relationships, working
collaboratively, strategically, and with integrity. Possesses a
strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful
fundraising. Possess a strong fiscal acumen with experience working
with budgets and financial processes. Knowledge of the higher
education fundraising and alumni relations profession and of
contemporary issues and best practices in the field. Must have the
ability to work non-standard hours, including nights and/or
weekends, and travel in and out of the state. Must have a valid
driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or
access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

The work schedule is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00
pm with occasional evening and weekend work required. The targeted
salary range is $133,500-$146,500.
