We are now looking for an Exmoor Moorland Bird Survey Lead to join our team on a full-time
basis for a fixed term contract from 2nd April 2024 to 30th September 2024. The role requires
early starts (5am), finishing earlier in the day and may include some weekend working.

The Role

As the Exmoor Moorland Bird Survey Lead, you will lead, co-ordinate and conduct the 2024 Exmoor
Moorland Breeding Bird Survey and associated habitat recording.

Conducting the survey according to the agreed methodology, you will lead a team of Moorland
Bird Survey Officers walking routes within 1km squares on open moorland. Each member of the
team will record the range of bird species found and complete recording forms in the field.

Ensuring all the survey requirements are achieved, you will ensure any necessary access
permissions are obtained and that any access restrictions are adhered to.

Additionally, you will:

– Produce the full moorland bird survey report

– Manage three Moorland Bird Survey Officers

– Carry out analysis of the data collected by the project team

– Produce bespoke maps and information for individual moorland blocks

About You

To be considered as the Exmoor Moorland Bird Survey Lead, you will need:

– Experience working within a nature conservation role

– Experience carrying out large-scale bird surveys

– Project and volunteer management experience

– Experience of vegetation monitoring

– Experience working within designated sites and carrying out condition assessments

– Experience in conservation and countryside management

– Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and mapping tools

– Excellent bird identification skills

– A degree or equivalent in a relevant environmental discipline

– A full, valid driving licence
