This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a combination of onsite and remote work.
Reporting to the Director of Experiential Learning, the Experiential Learning Specialist will implement two signature programs of the UC San Diego student experience: the Co-Curricular Record (CCR) and UC Washington (UCDC). Together these programs enhance student learning, development and preparation for post-graduation civic and professional careers for all UC San Diego Tritons. The Experiential Learning Specialist will implement the day-to-day administration of these programs, along with develop, and implement a robust marketing and promotion campaign for yearly growth in student awareness and participation. Additionally, the Experiential Learning Specialist will leverage campus momentum for the CCR and UCDC to administer and promote the Research Experience and Applied Learning (REAL) portal and UC Center Sacramento (UCCS).
The Experiential Learning Specialist works with faculty, administrators, staff, and students across campus to allow more sophisticated academic advising and career planning by mapping a student’s co-curricular and academic internship activities to the UC San Diego Competencies, a set of transferable skills, and abilities students may highlight when applying for graduate school or jobs. The Specialist role requires active engagement in outreach activities.
The Experiential Learning Specialist collaborates with the Director of Experiential Learning and campus colleagues to ensure co-curricular opportunities in the CCR and the REAL are accessible to all UC San Diego students, especially those who have been historically marginalized because of limited financial resources and/or biases toward race, age, disability, or other protected social identities. The Specialist will work with colleagues with the Teaching and Learning Commons and across campus to facilitate UCDC and UCCS recruitment, retention and student development workshops to support student success in these programs; advise students on UCDC and UCCS enrollment procedures; develop a CCR program comprised of workshop sessions that prepare students for the UCDC or UCCS programs and reflect about their experiences; serve as liaison to assigned academic departments, Community Resource Centers, to connect students to relevant internship opportunities; evaluate appropriateness of internship descriptions, help resolve internship conflicts, and facilitate reflection to increase the effectiveness of learning; supervise UCDC Peer Advisors; and develop and coordinate UCDC Peer Ambassador program.
Using professional registrar-based student record concepts, the Experiential Learning Specialist applies a level of breadth and depth to student record and service delivery practices, policies, and regulations. The Specialists will:
Promote the CCR, UCDC, REAL portal, and UCCS across campus by identifying opportunities within academic curriculum and department co-curricular programs.
Work with Career Services to maintain alignment with the UC San Diego competencies.
Work with external vendors to maintain and improve the REAL and CCR databases, including integration of new services and contract negotiations.
Oversee a CCR Evaluation Committee with the Director of Experiential Learning.
Promote the CCR and REAL portal externally by participating at conferences in the national conversation around innovating credentials.
Leverage the CCR, UCDC, REAL portal, and UCCS to help shape the campus culture by integrating them in existing processes.

Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of related experience in a higher education setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Thorough knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices with student records services. Knowledge of educational research, trends, initiatives, and organizations related to student development, experiential learning, and innovations in credentials.
Demonstrated knowledge of program development, data gathering, assessment, and evaluation skills.
Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations. A commitment to equity and to ensuring the success of underserved individuals and groups.
Proven experience as an effective public speaker, making presentations to audiences, including individuals, small groups, large audiences, and top-level decision makers in both public and private organizations. Experience answering questions on the spot, and experience explaining policies in an effective, audience-friendly manner.
Working knowledge and demonstrated ability to use complex databases. Experience with working with external vendors, and acting as the liaison to understand stakeholder needs and work with vendors to make enhancements.
Problem solving and organizational skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently to determine job priorities, timelines and deadlines, and demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work under pressure.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated experience communicating effectively in person, on the telephone, and in writing, with a diverse population of people at all levels inside and outside of the university system.
Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, flexibility, and cultural humility. Excellent customer service skills; experience working in a customer-centric environment.
Experience developing and facilitating workshops focused on student development, experiential learning, and career development.
Demonstrated experience acting as the primary administrator of a program/system, which includes providing full range of high level independent administrative support and coordination of all aspects to the program/system. Using independent judgment, and tact, ability to solicit others input, follow through on issues, and set priorities.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $61,800 – $108,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $29.60 – $51.72
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
