Job Description

Introduction

The Experimental Physics (EP) Department carries out research in the field of experimental particle physics.

It aims to provide a stimulating scientific atmosphere and remains an important reference centre for the European physics community. It contributes to the education and training of young scientists.

The Experimental Physics Department invites applicants for the indefinite appointment of a Physicist in experimental particle physics research.

Functions

As an Experimental Physicist, your functions will include:

  • Taking a leading role in all aspects of particle physics experiments, including the conception and design of experiments, the building and operation of detectors and the analysis of data.
  • Co-ordinating or making important contributions to studies, projects or committee work.
  • Representing the Organization at conferences, workshops, or in other research laboratories and institutions.
  • Supervising research and development work, and planning and managing activities including material and personnel resources.

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of particle physics or a related field.

Experience and Competencies:

You have an established record of post-doctoral experience, and have completed high-impact work in experimental particle physics research, typically before having taken up a permanent position.

Experience in data analysis, in the use of on-line and off-line software, and competence in detector hardware.

Capacity for innovation and potential for making a significant contribution to the scientific programme of the Organization.

Additional Information

Eligibility and closing date:

At a later stage, where required, the holder of an indefinite contract may have to undertake special working hours, as well as work in Radiation Areas.

The holder of an indefinite contract is expected to progress in this initial assignment or in other domains as required for the fulfilment of the Organization’s mission.

Employment conditions

Contract type: Indefinite contract.

Special conditions which may be required depending on the needs of the Organization in the future:

  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays;
  • Work in radiation controlled areas;
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • International Travel
