Job Summary

The Export Control Compliance Officer provides support to the Institute’s research mission through monitoring of research plans and activities concerning compliance with applicable laws and regulations that involve travel in and out of the U.S. Responsible for export control review and analysis, including assisting in the development of training, education, and assessment tools and supports the implementation of policies and procedures to promote the Institute’s ongoing compliance with export control laws. Provide education and advice to research management and faculty regarding compliance requirements. Export control regulations are federal laws that restrict the export of specific items, information, and software for reasons related to U.S. national security, and economic and foreign policy goals.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 –
Provide guidance to research personnel on application preparation and review of study protocols with regard to export regulatory requirements

Job Duty 2 –
Prepare, review, and maintain records and other documentation related to research compliance, proper authorizations, etc.

Job Duty 3 –
Coordinate campus-wide training on compliance; maintain training records

Job Duty 4 –
Maintain current awareness of export regulatory compliance policies and processes

Job Duty 5 –
Disseminates information and develops procedures to facilitate compliance with export control regulations and relevant USG and Institute policies

Job Duty 6 –
Supports and endorses cooperation with Institute compliance efforts and reports instances of noncompliance to the appropriate institution Officials

Job Duty 7 –
Promotes a culture of compliance and oversees adherence to federal regulations, Institute, and sponsoring agency policies and procedures related to export controls

Job Duty 8 –
Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; (two years undergraduate completion) and two years relevant work experience

Required Experience
Three to four years of job-related experience – with export control or compliance experience in aerospace, higher education, international trade, or an export control compliance industry performing similar work

Proposed Salary

$61,759 to $95,109

Ability to learn the following systems or have previous experience with systems supporting the export control i.e. ITAR Exemption and EAR Exception reviews, previous United States Munitions List (USML), i.e., ITAR Exemption, and EAR Exception reviews, previous United States Munitions List (USML), and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) classification and licensing experience

o Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels of the organization. Excellent
   organizational skills and the ability to work and manage in a high-energy, fast-paced
   environment
o Knowledge and skills in applying federal and/or institutional regulations regarding export control
   and foreign nationals
